For all around birds one cannot beat black or blue Australorps.

BA, PBR, RIR and EEs would all fit your criteria. I have all of these and more. These are the friendliest of my flock and good layers.

I'm still new and not up on on my breed abbreviations. What's BA? and PBR ( I seriously doubt you mean a cheap, terrible beer)... Plymouth Barred Rock?

BA= black astrolorp
PBR= plymouth barred rock
EE= easter egger
RIR= rode island red

You can beat an Australorp black and blue, but I think it would count as animal cruelty.
