good cheap homemade waterers?

I'm in the process of building an automated insulated water dispenser. Using an old hot water heater gravity feeding to a 5 gal bucket with a tolet float valve at the bottom. Chicken drink from 4 half moon slots cut in the side of bucket 6 inches from top. Hope this gives you some ideas..
