Good flock protecters?

Gooses are good for ground prey, too.

If you do decide to get a dog,get a herder,or pitbull, depending on your area.

German Shepard are not a breed for chickens.Their prey drives extremely too high. They are more likely to kill a chicken or goats etc then a pit would.
Most people,that I know,have bad experiences.
My friend had a German Shepard mix that killed ALL her chickens.
He has husky german Shepard mix. Both have high prey drive.

most any dog can be trained to leave chickens alone. My dog is a German wirehaired pointer she hasn't killed a chicken yet and she had more prey drive than any dog I've ever hunted with. Many warn against herd dogs for birds due to their need to always be herding and in doing so chasing and nipping which is how they push cattle and larger animals but would really kill or harm a chicken but I am sure that could be dealt with the same as prey drive with enough training

My Collies do well with our chickens, but it did take a little work to teach them not to chase the chickens. The chickens also figured out that if they don't run the dogs won't chase.
