good height for coop to be off ground? 2feet?

Hi,

my coop is a bit over 3' tall because I needed to be able to put things under it. I would rather have a coop your height. Sometimes you do need to crawl in for cleaning or whatever and 2' is great for that.

Have fun!

I am also at 18 inches for the chickens. I did not enclose around it and they can run under it if they are trying to get some shade or are running from one of the other Astra's that are getting to frisky! Wished I could show a picture of how I did it but I guess I am not allowed.

Best of luck with your coop!!

I made our 8x8 coop with 2' 4x4 post legs. It is open to run in the front w/ hardware cloth on sides and swing out hardware cloth 2x4 gates on back side. I attached roost on sides under coop and my chickens love to hang out under their coop and even in strong storms they are dry and look totally happy.

My coop is 8 x 4 x 4 and 4' above ground. All sides, top and bottom are hardware cloth with a heavy felt landscape cloth on top of the bottom with sand on top of that. It also has a raised roof over it. The height allows me to easily use a litter box scooper to clean the sand. Food stays dry underneath the coop and the height there is fairly comfortable for me to get under to clean or access the food dish and gives a dry area for storage of anything else that might be needed and a dry area for the chickens during the day that is if we ever get rain. The pop door folds down to create a little "porch" that they fly up to to get in at night. Right now they are about half grown and are having no trouble flying up there. I actually found them on top of the 10' sides of the run before i got the the chicken wire across the top. But I'll probably end up giving them a ramp or steps. For my gals they think the higher they are the better life is.
