Another question for anyone out there. " If my hens are going to start laying soon, shouldn't I start feeding them layer feed?" Because right now they are eating the growers feed.

Will their eggs be soft? Beings, they are eating growers feed. I was told to feed them growers until 20 weeks. But if they are going to laying soon I would think I should be feeding them layer production. Also, what about oyster shells? Are they already in the feed or do I give it addition to the feed?

Hi and :welcome from Ohio. So glad to have you aboard. I didn't switch until the first one laid an egg. The first eggs are usually small anyways. I also provide a separate feeder for oyster shells. I use one of those rabbit type feeders. :thumbsup

Hello and welcome to BYC

If you give them layer feed and oyster shells on the side their eggshells should be normal.
