Hello and Welcome.
Are you wanting to start raising chickens for the eggs mostly or just for fun? I do it for fun and have always preferred bantams. Still get eggs but small ones.

Eggs and fun! Love the idea of living a simpler life. Bantams are super cute. How is their temperament ?

Hi! Welcome to BYC! You are doing all the right things as you begin this great adventure! Getting a coop that will hold twice the amount of chickens you want is a great plan! That way you wont end up with a village of coops. I think your choices of chickens are good too. Buff Orpingtons are the best chickens around IMHO.

LOL a village of coops! I died laughing. I know me, Im all in or all out haha Ive heard so many good things about Buff Orpingtons!
