Dear Mrs. Lynn Jenkins CPA,
I want to thank you for sharing an opportunity to participate in the town hall meeting in regard to the flooding on the lower Missouri River. I am sorry that I didnt get a chance to get my questions answered. It sounded like you were taking real questions from people in the community. I am sure you didnt have time for my question, as you had some that were pre-queued. In fact I am sure someone selected from those calling in the questions you would answer. Isnt technology wonderful? Please remember that at any time in office, if you misrepresent honesty, you misrepresent the voters who put you there.
I was surprised that the leader, the General, of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Kansas City District would defer so many of the questions. Maybe he was just back from vacation or some family crisis? I dont know it just sounded like he didnt have a clue. I would think the top person in any organization would know what was going on. I realize that I am an arm chair auditor here but, I just got to think that our politicians are elected to know whats going and to appoint people to do work that is competent. Here is what I mean by this; a manual is great for the basics of making decisions. Now we have an unprecedented situation; more snow pack than in record history. So if you or any number of people in your, office have done their job for a year or two then you know that snow pack will melt come summer. You also know by now that its significant to the water level of the Missouri River. By now the leader of the U.S. Corps of engineers would have had studies going to determine melt versus water flow contribution wouldnt they? Wouldnt they have anticipated this snow melt and reduced the water level in advance? The U.S. Corps of Engineers have taken control of the water flow of the Missouri River. Dont they have liability here? My question in the queue was with all this flooding what are we doing to monitor the future snow packs and prevent this at least somewhat in the future? To me; our government has taken over the flow of a major river system, and because they didnt do their job, hundreds of thousands of dollars are lost with no compensation. Hundreds of homes are lost and the possessions in them. The economic impact with the loss of crop land and the crops will impact all of America.
Wow so here we are in a huge rescission, the people who caused it are still giving record bonuses, and big contributors to special interests groups like gas companies are making record profits. I see our government trying to posture and strut to overshadow the major cuts they are going to make. Here is the way I see it; youre cutting the people not the expenditures. Good leaders know what everyone under them is doing. I can watch reality TV for drama. I want good leadership. Cut the expenditures not the people! Pay mileage dont buy company cars.
I will close with telling you that I am one of the many who lost their job due to the banking crisis. I know many who have. I work hard to find a job, but at 50 and being a white male I just dont fit the non discrimination criteria. In two years I have more than 900 application acknowledgments in my file. This doesnt count the ones I mail in; apply in person, and any other avenue I use. If it wasnt for my garden and my small flock of chickens many of those I know unemployed or otherwise greatly compromised by this American crisis wouldnt be here now. I help in my church; I cook for people who would have to eat from food kitchens. Even on my unemployment I gave some of my money away. I have faith in God, I am not sure I have faith in America any more. In a few months after I have exhausted every thing I can sell, if I dont have a job I am going to have to loose my home to foreclosure. Every day I see more and more families that are loosing their precious heritage, and most of this is because we didnt regulate banks, measure snow pack, or set standards on special interest groups. I again encourage you to cut expenditures not the people.
I hope thats sincere enough for your aids to get this letter to you.
