Good store north of Houston?

Please do let me know if you find something good. You would think that there would be better feed stores in this area. I went to the Knox Road Feed Store the other day. The chix food they sell is medicated Nutrena starter and they have Nutrena Grower. I wanted Purina though. Knox Road was ok but not the kind of feed store I remember as a kid. That little feed store in Humble is a joke. Jed's works for me since I work downtown (Galleria actually), its on the way home every day when I make that long, long, long drive.

I like TSC for various things but I don't want that Dumor feed and they don't have much chicken supplies either.

Dennis

The one nearby me is America's Country store (they have a website that lists locations) I go to the FM2978 location because it is close. Anyways I was mentioning it because the only chicken feed they seem to carry is Purina so that might be a good place to look. They have quite a few locations.

wow that is like a quarter mile from my job if that

Thanks Headhen - Where is FM2978. I live in Porter off of 1314. If the America's Country store isn't too far away, I'll go visit.

I actually stopped by Jed's while out to lunch. They have a wide select of Chicken Feed and the levels we will need to start and I can select Purina at a fair price compared to the other two stores mentioned.

Since Jed's is just around the corner from the office, the VW Bug can handle a couple of bags of feed in the trunk -

When I checked the pet section, I believe I saw only 1 feeder and that was about it for the chicken related products.

The last time I was at TSC, they did have a nice selection of Chicken related products... Feeders, Waters, Egg hatching items, Oyster Shell and one other start stuff. DH and I may have to go there for the extras that we cannot find at the other stores we have visited.

I'll keep everyone posted!

I have been hearing a lot about DE as well, both for chickens and as an organic pesticide (ag grade) in the garden. I don't know anywhere around here to get any. It is hard enough to find the basic things local, much less something specialized like that. You can find it online but of course those darn shipping costs are a killer.

I am new to all of this so just learning a lot of things. I actually don't have any chickens yet. I'm still building my coop and trying to figure out how to get past certain neighborhood restrictions. My feed store trips are all research at this point.

Dennis

You, My DH and I are all in the same boat at this point. Unlike Bluebell, "We are learning all we can and eating the eggs" -

(ok - maybe I'm the only one laughing at that joke)

As for your coop/run and KW... Good luck with that my friend... Plant bushes around it and do not have a rooster! The crowing will be a dead give away to your (more than likely) over zealous KGB homeowners association! Especially at 5:00AM on any given morning!

We left Spring because of the over zealous H.O.S. and the cronies that loved to rat their neighbors out, but who broke the rules themselves to keep the H.O.S off their back!

If you end up with one let us know, we'll give it a good home.

Thanks for the Jed's Ace Hardware tip. I went at lunch and liked the prices on the feed. The Chicken related products were next to nothing, but the store manager was impressed that I was told to check out his Chicken feed by a BYC member. He looked genuinely surprised and greatful.

I'm sure we will cross paths again... And I'll keep you posted if I find a good store.

Leghorn Dude -

Looking up the directions now...

DH and I will have to go check them out this weekend.

JED's will work too because they are around the corner from work.

Thank you!

It is the western-most boundery of The Woodlands. East of Magnolia, North of Tomball. Does that help?

The one near me has lots of feeders, a few incubators, standard waterers, some electrolights, heat lamps, wormer, grit (chick and standard) oystershell, and one kind of feed. I've only seen chicks there around easter.

My dh works for TSC here in Amaillo, TX.

I read on one post about bugs in the feed area of a TSC store?? That is NOT normal for TSC protocal. It should have been brought to the attention of the store manager.

TSC has locations in Tomball, Spring, Porter and Katy. Pretty much covers NE to NW Houston area. (there's others, but you asked about North Houston).

Even before my dh went to work for them, that's the only place I would buy things for my animals. (part of the reason dh decided to work for them, they are a great company with fantastic values).

Also, BYC member, Spatcher, sells food grade DE to members. I just got mine from him the other day and already dusted everything with it. His price is great, too!

I'll have to look at their chicken products. I haven't been there for a few years. I saw you have a poodle.. how is he/she with your chickens? My daughter has one and we are trying to figure out how vigilant we will have to be with her, she won't like being omitted from chicken chores time if she can't be trusted to behave with them.
