Good store north of Houston?

Does anyone know of some good stores to find things for raising chickens? I'm north of Houston. The feed stores near me have next to nothing and only 1 kind of feed. Guess there are not a lot of chicken people around here...

I have been looking around a bit too. This town is so big that most likely, if you find the perfect feed store, it will be 40 miles away. I'm up North as well in KW. I haven't found much in this area.

The best I have found that is reasonably close, as far as feed goes, is a store called Jed's Ace Hardware located at 59 and Aldine Mail Route. They have a lot of feed choices for pretty much all types of farm animals. For Chix hey have starter, grower, scratch etc. They carry the Purina Sun Fresh brand as well as an off-brand for about $1.00 a bag less (which I suspect is probably made by Purina too).

They did have accessories but I honestly don't remember what all they had. It is also a fairly interesting hardware store. It is the biggest Ace I have ever seen.

Do y'all have an Atwoods store around? I've found our Atwoods to have everything I need for raising chickens.
ETA: I just checked our Atwoods ad. I don't think you do, since for TX it lists stores in Wichita Falls, Paris, Kilgore, and Tyler.

conroe feeders supply (100 S Main St, Conroe, TX - (936) 756-5549) has most of the feeders waterers feed and that kind of stuff i know they can get incubators nest boxes and that sort of thing just be careful dont go in the back they usually have chicks in stock and you will prolly leave with some their feed prices are a little higher than where i get mine which is americas country store (4141 W Davis St, Conroe, TX - (936) 756-7667) i believe layer pellets goes for 11.50/50lb both are great as far as being friendly and all that goes

We didn't have chickens then, but when we were in Tomball, the Tractor Supply always carried Blue Seal and Dumor poultry feeds and chicken equipment. The manager was always helpful. They also sold chicks (and bunnies) every spring.

Knox is ok... We have bought at least two bags of scratch for some Bandi's that moved into the neightborhood... We tried to ask the owner questions, but he was a bit tight lipped about what to feed a chicken...

We know more about raising chickens from this sight than anyone else is willing to share off the street.

As for TSC, I'll purchase everything but feed. I heard from others and seen with my own eyes bugs in the feed area...

One thing I will say about the chicken feed they did have, it gave us a better understanding of what type of feed to give our birds (chicks to full grown chickens) and when to go to the next level. The instructions were on the back of one of the bags. I'll give TSC credit for that little piece of info.

One question for you ... do you use Food Grade DE? If so, where do you purchase it around here? Sounds like that is some good stuff?

I am new to all of this so just learning a lot of things. I actually don't have any chickens yet. I'm still building my coop and trying to figure out how to get past certain neighborhood restrictions. My feed store trips are all research at this point.
