Good story about a marriage.....sad ending.

Same here, I recieved it quite some time ago and thought it was very touching and reminded me to be grateful for all that I have, my health, son and wonderful husband.

I guess I should count myself lucky, then, that I don't need an advertisement to remind me about that sort of thing.

I will say that my DH and I have been married 35 years next month, not just quantity of years, but quality years. I had just turned 19 two weeks prior to our wedding so have been married to the same man most of my life. Sometimes, the only prayer I pray is "Thank you, Lord, for my wonderful husband. If I never have another blessing in my life, he is enough." I'm very glad I didn't need a sappy story to remind me of that, but some people do. For the record, I didn't even think of the flower aspect of the story at all so if they were just advertising, they were very subtle about it. I'm not overly sappy, but nor am I overly cynical about love and marriage.

Okay, just delete the floral shop part off the end so some people won't get stuck on that and actually see the meaning of the story. Geez!

I thought it was very touching.

Even without the floral shop part, it's not a great story.

Those of you who have lost a loved on to cancer or some terminal illness know how hard it is. Sometimes it's sudden, but usually, you know beforehand. That time is difficult but important. It's a time to find support, make some painful but needed final plans.

Instead of telling her family, this fictional woman chose not to. I doubt this is the only time she's done that. If you really want to read into things and get at the 'meaning' behind this advertisement, you have to consider that. Before "Oh, I'm dying of cancer and instead of giving my loved ones time to cope and find the support they need, I'll just deal with it alone" there was probably a lot of "Oh, no one's done the dishes, I GUESS I'll just do them myself" and "Oh, no one put the laundry away, I GUESS I'll do it myself." That's not being noble, that's a martyr complex, and it can create a lot of resentment within a family. Obviously Fictional Husband is still a scuzzball for cheating on his wife, but the failure of this marriage wasn't one-sided.

Personally, I resent someone trying to play on my emotions to get me to buy something I don't need, no matter how subtle it is.

I think the OP posted this story because she thought it was touching and some people might like it or gain some insight from it. I am sure it was not meant to start a debate. It seems like you may be having a rotten day. I am sorry, hope it gets better

Nah, my day's been pretty good. Old cat got a clean bill of health, I'm enjoying some lunch, about to go out and work with the horses. And I got to talk to the one I love about how poorly written this emotional advertisement is.
