Mine get crumbles and scratch grains, but mostly free range and table scraps at bedtime.

I know this is an older thread but I've just now got chicks!
I gave them some eggs (hard boiled in small pieces) and they pecked at it a little but didn't seem super excited. The real winner is a live cricket! Watching them chase it down and then chase the one who has it! So cute. And our smallest little chick oddly enough is the winner mostly ! Who knew?!
HI in Louisville!!! Hoptown here!!! Just got my first crop of chickies as well (1 week old today) and came to this thread looking for what to treat my FlufferButters (what I call my flock!) I just put some grit down in their brooder and tossed in about 2Tbs of dried mealworms and seeds.
Gonna try and sift through this 40 page thread and hope I glean a bit more..... until then, time to boil up some eggs!

Hi!![]()
Flufferbutters, that's cute. What kind of grit are you using? I've found chicken grit but it's certainly much to big for chicks. I've yet to find parakeet grit at any pet store and everyone else just "goes outside and gets some dirt" - which is much harder when everything here is clay!! Lol
Next move would be getting play sand from Home Depot or something I guess.
