I've had to say goodbye to several pets ... and it does NOT get easier as you get older. The most recent was in March 2010, when my "forever puppy" Rottie Freya's bone cancer spread to her lungs/ribs and we could hear it in her breathing. I had tears running down my face while driving her to the vet's, in the waiting room, on the floor with her as the doc helped her passing, then for three hours afterwards before I was able to stop for the day. Most of the staff that day was teary-eyed, as they were very fond of my sweet dog and possibly spoiled her worse than I did.
Just typing that has made my eyes well up a bit ... when I was younger my dad gently pointed out to me that when you surround yourself with living things, you must accept that they will die at some point and what we are left with is our memories. Keep the good memories of your dog. I could write long paragraphs about each of mine from the past, as each had his/her own unique personalities, did things to make me laugh, things I could only go "Awwww!" about, and of course there was the devoted doggy lay-the-head-on-my-knee memories when I had a bad day, complete with the "puppy-dog eyes" of love. When I remember those times, I can't help but smile a bit for Freya, Bel, Myra, Bear, Rudy, and Whimpy ... those are just the dogs. Add in the cats Charky, Goose, and Puddy. Especially Puddy! LOL That cat had enough personality for three cats - a LOT of hilarious stories for him and Bel and how those two got along.
Write down your memories, and put that with your favorite pics.
