I have a now 9 month old Toulouse, Lil Miss. A month ago, she lost her sister and mostly separated herself from the rest of my main goose flock. Then she flew over a 4' fence & sought out my one bonded yard-wandering pair. My buff gander chased her off even though I have 3 other young geese in with him & his goose that he seems to accept but keep at wing's length. We were letting her free range in the yard but now she seeks out and literally flanks the rooster of which ever flock I have free-ranging for the day. And she chases off that rooster's hens. Is there any feedback or suggestions on how we can help her reacclimate to being among her own kind?

I'm very sorry your girl is missing her sister and can't find a new "best friend."

My American Buff lost her sister in December. They were inseparable from the day I brought them home almost 8 years ago. When she's loose in the yard (only under my strict supervision) Gussie has decided to either shadow me, nibbling at my clothes every chance she gets, or position herself as close as possible outside the ducks' run. The ducks have never enjoyed being near geese, so I don't let her in with them.

As Gussie is my only goose now, I am planning to buy a few goslings this spring and hope that her maternal instincts kick in enough that she bonds with them.

Just as with people, every creature's grief manifests in unique ways. I hope your girl is able to find her way back to being part of a flock.
