I don't own any geese to "color my viewpoint" but I will tell you this-if he was in such fear of his life that he WENT AND RETRIEVED a baseball bat to hit this goose with such for that it blew it's eye out-why couldn't he call Animal Control, the Sheriffs Dept. or gee, how bout Parks and Wildlife, what with such things being their job and all.
I'm truly sorry that you were injured by a goose-but in my opinion, that is coloring YOUR viewpoint.

For pretty much the exact same reason I set traps for raccoons, possums, mice, and rats instead of calling Animal Control, the Sheriff's Dept, and Parks and Wildlife.

Huh? Ok, thanks for explaining that to me-it all makes sense now.
I'm not going to change your mind and your sure not going to change mine.
I'm done-agree to disagree.

You could be right. He could be an animal abuser who needs to spend time in jail getting acquainted with a goose-loving man named Bubba.

But my point was we don't have enough evidence to make that judgment, and quite a few of us may have been in similar situations were we acted similarly and we should not be condemned.

If he walked back to get the bat with the intent of maiming the goose for life, condemn him. He deserves it.

If he walked back to get the bat to try to drive off the goose and the situation got out of hand, he does not deserve condemnation
If he walked back to get the bat to try to get past the goose to go about his job and the situation got out of hand, he does not deserve condemnation
If he walked back to get the bat to kill the goose to prevent it from attacking others because he knows Animal Control/The Sheriff/Parks and Wildlife will show up way to late to do anything if they even actually show up or even take the report and didn't realize the goose wasn't dead, he does not deserve the level of condemnation he has been receiving.

And we do not have enough evidence to determine which of the above is the true story.

Ummm...do you REALLY think this goose was going to EAT this man? Sorry, just don't get the comparison.

Like I said previously, I've had my arm broken by a goose.

If you don't mind me asking, how did the goose break your arm? I'm seriously not trying to be a wise guy, just curious.

There are people sitting in jail for doing the exact same thing, only the victim was a human. If you can go inside and retrieve a weapon and then go back to your attacker and kill or maim then you had ample opportunity to get away - it becomes premeditated at that point. In any court of law. The guy is guilty of premeditated assault.

It kept attacking, flying up at my face. At one point, flew at me and manage to knock me down. Battered me with his wings and kept attacking until I managed to fling it far enough away that I was able to scramble into my car. I am not sure at what point my arm broke, my guess is either when I fell or when it hurled itself into my outstretched arm while I was trying to get into the car. In addition to the broken arm, I was bruised up, sore, bloody in a few places, my ankle twisted while I was fleeing, it scratched the heck out of my paint job and even left dents in the car door. I didn't see it and it's mate on their nest until I came around the bushes and nearly stepped on them. It chased me a couple hundred feet and came back to keep attacking after being knocked away from me at least three times. I was in the car almost ten minutes before it left to go back to his mate, at which point I exited the car to get the keys I'd dropped and got the heck out of dodge before it noticed me and attacked again.

But the victim wasn't human, and wouldn't this ALSO apply to all the BYCers who have gone back into their house to grab a gun to deal with a predator?
