GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

I did. It was stuck solid around the pip hole. You could be right. I filled up the reservoirs and made sure the humidity was high before I fell asleep but when I woke up about 6 hours later it had dropped drastically so I filled them and wet the sponge but it was probably too late.

Sounds to me the lil one was shrink wrapped.

He was sticky. there was water still in the air sac and when he pipped it flooded in and he drowned. Then the outside of the membrane dried out. I'm sorry for your loss. Hope you can get another gosling friend for him. You did everything you could these things just happen sometimes. It may have also been affected by the increase of humidity from the other baby who had already hatched out.

Thanks for the advice. "Moose" has a teddy and I am asking around locally. I'm really not sure what happened. They weren't great eggs to start with but they were expensive so I wasn't going to waste them. I did start with 4 but two of them weren't even fertilised.
It was moving around when I candled it right before lock down and had even pipped. Moose gave it a good kicking around so it could have been that.
Hi mIss HennyPenny. Something cuddley is great, but a mirror is really valuable, as it makes them feel there´s another little one around. I kept one of mine happy for a few weeks likes this, even then it was really tiring, but then when I had another little one on its tod, they both got on so well, even though there was a month between them...because the first one had a mirror, knew what it was. They still stick really close now, months later.

That's interesting. I was thinking about getting more to hatch but thought it would be too big a gap. I'll also have to go out and buy a mirror tomorrow as I don't have one small enough!

Thanks for the advice. I feel better knowing I have a little time to find Moose a buddy.
