GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

That's interesting. I was thinking about getting more to hatch but thought it would be too big a gap. I'll also have to go out and buy a mirror tomorrow as I don't have one small enough!

Thanks for the advice. I feel better knowing I have a little time to find Moose a buddy.
Well, a mirror will help, but the gozzie will be much happier with a REAL friend! Happy hunting...the sooner the better, though, for the gosling´s sake and yours!

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I've been out today and got Moose a mirror. I've also been around the local vets and poultry breeder for pals for him. No luck yet but I have been given some contacts. I also have more goose eggs on the way. This little goose WILL have buddies!

Your gosling is lovely. Well done on your efforts, too. some find a feather duster useful as they may like the feathers to snuggle into. It´ll probably enjoy some small pieces of lettuce, but it´ll need a bit of grit or builders sand (clean, of course) to help it grind the lettuce, but you probably know that anyway. And now´s the time to find another gozzie somewhere...Might your feed store know of someone that has geese?
But one way or another it´ll soon have some little friend. That´ll be so good. Just keep an eye that it doesn´t bully a tinier one. Sometimes it can happen, seems to depend on the breed a bit. It does pass after a couple of days, though, usually once they´re used to the smaller one. That´s where the mirror comes in so useful, because it will have already imprinted on itself, and knows it´s a gosling, so will recognise the newer one. I hope that makes sense to you.

I know that my geese are really getting close. I am seeing the same signs in them that I saw when My goose was getting ready to lay. I haven't seen breeding but my gander is definitely cranky and short tempered. Bring on the eggs!

Good luck with hatching your eggs, gander.

Flockman, you must be excited. I look forward to seeing pics of your babies to be!
