GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

I imagine Missy is being protective of her nest, but not yet broody. I am not sure exactly how to coordinate her going broody with my getting you eggs. I do think that once she gets at least 7 eggs in her nest, there is good chance she will go broody overnight. I can send you eggs next week and they should remain viable for another week after you get them. But since Beignet only just started laying, there's plenty of eggs if you want to wait a little bit. While I'm bummed for you that Missy's eggs aren't fertile, I can't wait to see Missy/Sammy raise babies out of Chicory/Beignet.
We'll wait and she how it goes, I was just wanting to make sure she isn't getting the bug already. Even if she did she would most likely take new eggs and continue to sit till they hatched. It's me I am worried about

Okay I'll take a deep breath and relax. I know it is sad that one of the other is sterile most likely Sam don't you think?

Once Missy´s properly broody her own eggs could be left under her for a bit (if they´re infertile it makes no difference), until the new eggs arrive, then just do a swap. She won´t mind if she sits 4 weeks or 6! (Just depends on how reliable she´s going to be anyway as a brooder)

MLyd, you could pop some under a duck at the same time, so that just in case anything goes wrong with Missy´s brooding, you´ll still get some from the duck. If they all should hatch, Missy will adopt the tinies easily in the first few days. Will only upset mum duck if the babies are with her for enough time to bond, I´ve discovered. When I took the tiny ones away the duck just sat on her dud egg.

Sounds good. Try to give me a week head's up, so I can collect eggs for you. Otherwise, I'm marking her first few eggs and leaving them in her nest.

Or, as you already have a broody duck, get some eggs.....start them off under the duck, then when Missy´s sitting well, pop some of the eggs under her to continue the process.....I´ve done all of these options here, as you know MLyd, trying to keep eggs alive through different mini-catastrophies, a juggling game, but it worked out ok.

Will the feathers change again when my goose molts? She's got some pretty patterns coming in but Im wondering if it's going to stay that way.
The fodder set up is going nicely. Taking a little longer than expected to grow, but I'm staggering the trays so they come available at different times. I figure 10 trays in rotation should do the trick.

I seperated Stormy, my tufted chinese goose and put her with the unrelated white tufted chinese gander. Hoping for a pied with more white, or the more rare dilute, we will see i guess. The rest are together. unless someone wants goslings, i will only incubate stormy's eggs first.
