GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

Grief, the size of these two make mine look like ducks!

the only geese I have are Dewlaps and Embdens. They are lots bigger then the ducks. I only have one banty on the place.

Yes, my chickens poop all over the eggs, too. Amazing they hatch out!

I'm actually wondering if poop-covered eggs helps avoid cocci infections... since the poop is up against the egg, Cocci germs *could* be introduced to the chick before it even hatches. So perhaps the immune system of the chick learns how to deal with the protozoa before it hatches.

It's not something I really WANT to experiment with. But then I do have a good stock of Corid already, so maybe I should keep up with a poop-covered egg and the chick that hatches out of it, and see what happens.

MLyd, if you´re a bit unsure about Missy, you could always pop a few eggs under a good ol´muscovy and when they hatch out, just raise them indoors for a bit, then give them to Sam (already knows the ropes) and Missy to adopt them once they´ve grown a bit. ?
I think Missy will go broody but just don't remember her pooping on her eggs last year although she could have, memory isn't as good as it use to be, But having a couple gosling in the house would be nice too. I'm sure too I could find a couple Muscovy's up for a brooding session I have one now broody on nothing.

My geese have changed a lot since last month. Their vent and surrounding areas look much different. The one who has received attention from Boris first is really changed. Surely she will lay very soon! I am a little apprehensive after last years loss of my goose. I would guess she is going to lay tomorrow by the looks of her. We shall see!

Hoping all goes well flockman.
