GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

Not all eggs will hatch when shipped. That is why you order more than you want because the air cell are sometimes damaged in transit to you. Plus not every egg is fertile either. Good luck and I recommend special handling when having them shipped to you.
I'm driving to pick them up! Do you still think I should get more than 4?

Glad you are going to pick them up subhanalah there will be much less handing which is great. You ask if you should still get more I suggest yes because as I said not all eggs are fertile. If you are very lucky all may hatch. But with my experience with my Sebastopol eggs not everyone I go take from the nest are fertile.
Ask the breeder what her fertility rate has been on the eggs this year and that will give you a better idea of how many you would like to get from the person.

Also make sure you rest the eggs for 24 hours after you come home. I put them in an egg carton with the small side down in the carton and the large end up to stabilize the air cell...
Hope this helps you. Good luck.

The two I hatched are Painted Geese. I love hatching them because they are like the "Ancona" of Goose Breeds!
Painted geese? I´ve not heard of them... I´m intrigued. What are they developed from? And please pardon my ignorance, but what does "ancona" of goose breeds mean?
