GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

left gosling is 12 days old, right gosling (with black on top of bill) is 10 days old.  Their eyes are not blue, but they're not very dark, either.

I have the following females:

Embden, Embden/Chinese, Toulouse, Toulouse/Chinese

And the following males:

Embden, Embden/Chinese, Embden/African, Toulouse, Toulouse/Chinese, Sebastopol/Tufted Roman

This is my first season of my own goslings, so I don't know what to expect at all.

It will be a few weeks before feathers start then. Im pretty sure the spotted one will keep that color.
I guess i wasnt too far off with breeds then, seeing now what you have in your flock. The older they get the easier it will be to tell breeds. The reason i was asking about blue eyes was not just for gender but for color as well. I had one gosling last year that was spotted like that, he had blue eyes and turned white, i was disappointed. Doesnt mean all will turn but its something to consider.

We have two American buff eggs in our incubator that externally pipped yesterday morning, so It's been close to 36 hours now, and those two haven't zipped yet. The pip holes are large enough that we can see the beaks in the hole, and both gooslings are chirping. I've read it can take over 48 hours for a goosling to hatch out. What has your experience been?

They should be out by sometime tomorrow then. If not check the membrane for shrinkage. Have you raised your humidity? If not some of us like to add a warm wet wash cloth or a sponge inside the incubator to help increase the humidity. I have even laid the wash cloth on top of the back half of pipped eggs to get them to pop out. I would give them until mid day tomorrow though. 48 hours is normal, some longer some less. Just keep an eye on them.

Ok thanks for the reply, yes we have raise the humidty and decreased the temp, Humidity is about 80-70% and temp is 98.5. We also misted some thru the vent hole.
There are 3 other eggs in the incubator that haven't externally pipped yet, tomorrow is day 30

Look at all those girls!! your Embden pair finally had goslings?? adorable Congrats!!! 5 girls 3 boys?

In this picture there are 4 males and 4 females and unfortunately they are not from my geese, I bought these hatchlings from a breeder and they are simply fantastic! My goose pair suck at egg producing or fertilization!! I did sell my smaller goose and got a much larger one. I promised a pair of goslings for the larger goose as that was the deal and I fulfilled that promise yesterday. Now I have three pair, but only intend to keep one pair. Not sure just what a beautiful healthy pair of quality Embden goslings should sell for, any ideas?

I don't but maybe looking in the Buy Sell trade will give you an idea. I thought for sure you had 5 girls, they sure are adorable.

It would be nice to get a spotted. All of my birds are either all white or gray toulouse-colored, with the exception of the light gray african-embden male. I did get one embden recently that has a few spots on her, so I guess there's a 1/23 chance that this one is from the female with spots.

I was told the more you mix crossbreed like yours the more chances you have at getting the rarer colors.
