RURU, one of my 9 wk old goslings (Dixie) has developed Drop wing. I noticed it last night but thought maybe she was hot. Anyway she keeps trying to pull it up every few minutes today. Im going to use vet wrap to put it back in place. How long should i leave it on her??

I have several that the wings are dropping and twisting. So I have taped a couple but could not catch the last little snot. Put it on and keep it on a week. Make sure to wrap were it is not too tight. I am going to re due it because do not like the way I wrapped it the first time. Then if not better put new wrap on for another week until they look like they are holding them correctly.

Thanks! I wanted to make sure before i left it on. So far shes the only one. At first i thought maybe she hurt it. Doesnt look hurt. Shes gotten big quick so i figured it was drop wing where she grew so fast. Good thing i keep vet wrap for the horses and dogs. Love that stuff.

My Muscovy's do this when the blood feathers start to come in they must be very heavy. I've never taped before though, it usually works itself out in a coupe of weeks .

I have several females. Some are great moms others are too busy to care about the babies. They sit on the eggs, but not nearly as much as they should. I let them sit until I have at least 6 eggs together and then I put them in the incubator. I have not had them sit to term because they simply will not sit enough. They are not like hens. Some hens do a great job sitting. I bought muscovy ducks to help out the geese and have yet to try this as the ducks are just ducklings this year. Next year I will have them taking care of the goose eggs.
Muscovy's will sit on any egg you give them, I actually have 2 sitting on nothing.

With Sebastopol's this happens all the time to our geese no matter how we watch the protein they grow so fast that we get the wing issues all the time. You have to learn how to wrap them wings. I am still learning how myself. I have to as I said re wrap two of my girls. I do believe I got the one splash gosling wrapped correctly. That is because of how the wing tips are on the Sebastopol's.
But 2 weeks of the wing wrapping but as I said make it loose so the wings can keep growing with the wrap on there.

Will do! I dont want to cut the circulation off and have a gosling with one wing.

I am super surprised and happy that I hatched a beautiful buff girl last night.

I'm pretty sure the other eggs quit and will probably have to pick up a baby duck to keep her company, but that's ok with me. I'm just pleased for the end of season gift. My bators are done for the year..... and unless my 3 broody girls (sitting on a combined total of 10 eggs) hatch a few more, Summer (my newest buff girl) will be the last gosling of 2013.

I got four unexpected eggs last week. The oldest of the three are developing and I just put the last in, so I have to wait a bit to see what happens. This will be the latest I have had goose eggs and latest hatch for me also if they continue to develop.

I have one more hatch of chicks due in a couple days and everything will be turned off except the goose eggs.....

PS Janet, my freaky beaky is clearing up by itself. At the beginning of last week the nares looked like they were closing, but now they are open and it looks great. It looks like the bill will continue to grow and correct itself.
