Thanks. I'm a little sad for the one but ecstatic for the ones I have!
As for the flock composition - I have 4 geese and 3 ganders. However, one of the geese and one of the ganders are yearlings. The yearling gander is the father (best I can tell) of the early, lonely gosling. The yearling goose just seems... confused. She didn't nest this year. I'd find goose eggs in the weirdest places (middle of the driveway, in a turkey nest, etc) that I'm sure were hers. She just never could reconcile what was happening with her fundament and hung out with the ganders while everyone else was brooding. So I get what you're saying but, while I do have more geese than ganders, that's probably not it.
I am considering keeping/getting another gander so everyone's paired up. I know it's just going to make for more fighting come spring but there's going to be spring fighting as long as there's more than one gander anyway. And maybe everyone will be happier in the long run if they can kind of work it out and pair off?
Merc and his sibs are doing well, we intro'ed them to their momma's and daddy several days ago and Proud poppa (Casey) is taking very good care of them. Saturday the 14th of June I finally seperated the ducks from the geese by renovating the back portion of the chicken and goose run. It's approx. 20x8 they should have plenty of space now for 11 ducks.
Also Lacy & Macy Geese (the momma's), while I was working on the renovations, they never left their nest. Remember I said in a prior post they were sitting on 21 eggs. Well come about 4 pm I was almost finishing up and heard something I could have sworn was Merc and his sibs, but they were all on the far side of the yard and the sound was coming out of the run. Well Macy at just the right moment gave me a glance of her new babies, at that time there was only two. This morning the count is up to 5.
Now on too the BAD news...... What in the world am I going to do with all the goslings? It's one of those instances that good news can also be bad news.
So my count is;
Casey (daddy)
Macey (momma)
Lacey (momma)
Merc & Sibs
now the hatchlings that makes 13 total geese, talk about an instant Flock.

The females legs are perfect, just a bad angle in pic. Both have heavy wings so I taped them. He had difficulty at first with balance but adjusted himself. .I've also have been giving his ankles some physical therapy as he's not bending them up. Thinking I should tape his legs closer together but I'm afraid to totally immobilized him. Putting niacin in their water too.

The older gosling splits his time between the young ones and the flock proper. It does seem to enjoy the goslings' company though. I haven't sexed any of the goslings so I don't know what I've got there.
