GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

Oh crap.  I'm sorry, I'm sure I'm dumb.  Can someone tell me how many pounds of additives to add to the 12x12 width 4 foot deep front pond?  And to the 35 X 20 by 4-6 foot deep back pond.  And, since I live in a wetland, the various marsh channels and pools (there are, as far as I can see 2 additional pools and 7 channels but there may be more pools and channels further that I can reach because I don't float like waterfowl).

Or can someone tell me how to encourage them to drink only from my treated waterer?

What do you all think?
either trap them and administer straight by Bill or put it in their waterer, if they use it at all, it'll be beneficial.

There's no need to be sarcastic. That's against the BYC rules.

You've not actually given any definitive information as to why I would trap and force my birds. Isn't the lack of evidence also against BYC rules if you present it as definitive?

Really, though, there's no need to be threatening if I disagree with you. The better approach would be to actually provide evidence. But you haven't. Isn't that also against BYC rules?

In any event to everyone else -because I'm pretty sure subnahanalah is irrevocably insulted and won't stop until I'm gone for... expressing an opinion? - while I feel my responses to subhanalah have been, if terse, within the rules. I apologize to everyone on this forum and will accept a ban if my responses are determined without merit and unacceptable. If I receive a ban I want to wish you all great luck with your gozzers!

I guess good bye, good night and good luck!

Looks like they have been having some fun in the mud alright

I think I'm the dumb one, since I didn't realize you had so many water sources. Mine have only buckets and pools to drink out of so it's much easier. And my mama's and babies are separated from the others by fencing for about the first 3 weeks.

it's okay, P! We're not expected to be psychic! (Well, MOST sensible people don't expect that anyway)

Since it's so much easier to make assumptions and threats (while she may have not understood my situation and, as you can see, acknowledged that - Miss Lydia has NEVER made a threat to me based on my comments. to be clear I'm talking about YOU)

Most sensible people ask about a situation instead of, after the fact of snark, pretend that you'd have to be psychic. In other words you could have asked about the situation. I never expected you to be psychic. I also never expected the random attack you gave and that you seem intent on sustaining. Why do you have such a problem with me? If I inadvertently insulted you I'm sorry. But I have to be honest, I only know you from this exchange. I'm really at a loss here. Either you're angry with me because I wouldn't take your advice or you're angry with me for how I keep my birds. Maybe there's some other reason, I don't know. I can't for the life of me figure out why you're so irate with me. If you let me know the actual reason maybe we can work it out.

Not to interrupt a much heated debate about how to treat water (which I would have no clue how to do.... also have water water everywhere and no reason to supplement my healthy flock)..... but I wanted to say that I love all the pictures of babies!! I have my fingers crossed that I will have another hatch or two from dedicated broodies before the season is over. Until now, I've only had 3 ducks and 3 geese hatched this year, not that I'm complaining too much since I already have a large flock.

J, when are the Africans expected to hatch? You´re still expecting more goslings, aren´t you?
Oh, i went for a walk with hubby the other day along a dirt road and we came across a number of properties that had geese, mainly European-type breeds. Then we could hear...the 'siren' noise of some Asiatics. They looked a bit big for chinese, but a bit small for Africans, so I don´t know which they were.... Well I thought my lot were noisy! Now, my neighbour has a chinese and I hardly hear him. So, do africans make this weird siren-type shrieky whistle noise? Or would they simply be chinese, and my neighbour has a mean, quiet one? Just like to know.

Could you soak some grain in water that has been treated then feed them that? I don't know if it would work - i've never tried it but it might be a solution (pardon the pun) that others in a similar situation could use as well. Or as they are geese - just put some grain in a container covered with water that's been treated - then in order to get the grain they would treat themselves.
