GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

I have not seen any romantic action. Seems I have a Buff and a Toulouse that stick together.
She will not eat when he's around, like always. When she tries to grab a bite to eat, she keeps looking around and finally gives up. So I put food and water in with her pen, and the dude and his wife are in a separate pen divided by hardware cloth.
Bless her heart, well you've taken action so hopefully she'll get some good nourishment now and not have to watch over her shoulder[figure of speech since geese don't have shoulders]

I worry about the flock dynamics if Babe is boy or girl with the same thing happening in this setup. So far still waiting. Unless your wanting to breed and keep the breed pure I see nothing wrong with them pairing with who ever they like. It seems they know what their doing at times. Dude should be happy he is allowed a wife. lol

LOL how about a big buxom lady??

Toots, yes.

Today I had to take the Seb male out of there and into a pen. He is just getting too brutal. He grabs one of my geese (Sophie) by the tail and won't let go. He makes a point of watching her so she stays away from the rest (3pair altogether). He won't let her eat or drink. So I'll have to figure out what to do now. His mate certainly wasn't pining after him!

Has he been like this before and getting worse? If his mate even seems relieved that he is out of the picture it could be that he is just nasty and needs to find a new home.

I don't think he's ever been mean to his mate, it just looked like she couldn't care either way. I just can't have him beating on one of my 6 month old Sophie, not letting her eat, and terrifying her. It's just not normal and I don't know why. She's very sweet.

This has been going on for a few weeks now.

So now he can't even be out in the open with her? I don't understand why he would pick on just the one. but maybe just keep him separated till mating season is over, you can always let his mate go in for visits. That would upset me too. Hopefully some of our seasoned goose people may have an answer. I've had 1 goose for going on 8 yrs but this is my first with multiple geese so no expert by any stretch of the imagination.

Okay, I would not believe this if my husband and I didn't watch this. The older couple has been separated at night. For a few nights he was by himself but the pens share a wall. The next day he comes out and it's the same thing, he won't let her come over for food.

Today I thought it was odd that I was hearing "growling"- loud. We go out and Sophie (6 months old) has the rotten male by the neck. She was chasing him and nipping him. Hubby then found him hovering in a corner "playing dead". The "don't touch me " male let my husband pick him up and pet him. Now, the tables are turned and she is helping herself to food and water with her 3 others she grew up with. He is now not permitted to look at her or get closer. And no, I don't feel sorry for him.

Yay for Sophie, she might be showing mating advances. I saw it today from my 5 month old Toulouse with my gander, she wasn't quite that rough but she was nibbling and biting at his feet while they were in the pool, the tables were dif turned. Hopefully Sopie has set him straight.
