p.s. I did a bit of reading-up about problems with hatching on these threads, it was very helpful, so I just knew what to do. Without it I wouldn´t have known. I may have lost the gosling. I found Iain Utah´s advice very useful among others, a very interesting read.....see, we never know when we´ve written something ages back that it may be of use at some time. Thanks Iain (Janet if I remember right?)
A compliment well deserved! I reada thread where you were helping someone in England with her ducks, I think...I remember that 2 survived. But the info that I got from that thread was very useful. Others too....I´m becoming an expert in the goose-world here, and just because of BYC and a couple of books I have! haha. I now have 10 goslings and 2 more due to hatch, one of which has pipped, and then 4 more under ducks....woooooooooo, just love them. I teach English, and these two have been helping, lol! Thanks for the compliment. And impressive that you remember my name is Janet.![]()
Congrats on the new goslings! They are adorable!
Yes, she went back down yesterday after a day and a night, as she was a little stressed without her siblings and called quite a lot. Tiny one thinks I´m his mum, so wasn´t too stressed without her, just sat next to the mirror. Now he´s sitting next to little bro! All quiet.........wonderful! Will up-date when I have more news of the others.....
How funny you have them popping up every where. They are adorable of course, Congrats on the ones that have hatched and the ones to come. They look very interested in the gosling in the mirror.OK, how many can you see now?!
Excluding the mirror, there are 4. Well, yesterday another started to hatch. This time the goose was normal with it, nibbling the shell, not frightened. But the one remaining egg was only making the slightest noise so I took the nearly-hatched gosling out of the nest and left her with the last egg. Maybe tomorrow for that one. It duly hatched, and went in the box with the other two.
We went out today, and when we got back this afernoon we discovered the younger gander wandering around with a gosling! Well where did THAT one come from?!
Well, I had put an egg that I thought was a late lay under a duck that was already incubating 3 eggs. Obviously it wasn´t such a late lay! It must have hatched a couple of days ago and been quite happy there with the duck until ready to come out, then we discovered it wandering around with its dad! Welll, it´s now with its bros. Almost identical to each other. So that now makes 4 out of 8 so far, maybe another yet to hatch. Better than I expected. And it seems the duck is unperturbed, happy to continue brooding the 3 goose eggs still under her that are due to hatch in a couple of weeks.
J it was probably the Hatchday thread we all met onI don't remember that thread, but have gotten lucky helping peeps on this forum a couple of times. I have gotten a lot of info (and support) over the past couple of years here and am happy to spread the knowledge along.![]()
