Excellent news, Jean... and beautiful pictures!

It's the 3rd week of July and you'd think goose hatching season is long over. But yesterday, my last broody goose hatched out 4 babies!

Here they are.... along with the pair of juvenile Africans I gave her a few months ago to raise.

Aww what sweet pics J!

Miss Lydia I do believe that Missy wants to hatch something no matter who's egg it is!!!
I think so to RURU when it was time to go to bed she was over on the ramp going into the duckling house instead of going into her house. The door was already closed but first time I've seen her on their ramp.

Hey all.....hope everyone is having a wonderful summer raising their precious babies. I am pleased that after all the boys I hatched this spring, I was able to hatch two beautiful buff girls to add to my flock. They are now 7 weeks and 4 weeks old.

And the last of the babies, hatched in late July, are a week old and well guarded by their parents and adopted African siblings.

Hey Guys, I posted this same question on another thread but am very curious and am hoping to get some information so I am adding it here as well since this is very Goose specific.

I have a bit of a situation here with my Chinese crested.... seems that I have stumbled across a nest that one of them has been sitting on. it has 5 eggs on it 4 look like they have been there for a while but one is bright white and looks like new. I haven't seen an egg in a long while from my mating pair but the one sitting is the one I didn't know if it was male or female(rather young I think as it doesn't have a keel yet). Does this happen sometimes??? We will candle them tonight and see what is going on inside if possible. Just wanted some insight from more seasoned Geese owners and hatchers. Thanks for any help or insight you may have.
Hope and Jeff

Is this nest in a different place than where you were finding eggs this past season from your pair? If so id say that this nest belongs solely to the young female. It is awefully late in the season though but anything can happen i guess maybe shes just a procrastinator lol. Id go ahead and candle them, they may be old too and she is just wishful thinking. I have to ask this, what do you mean by Crested Chinese? Do you have a Crossbreed? Because if not a cross its just chinese(either white or brown). Crested is for ducks and Tufted is for geese. Im not being a smarty pants or anything im just curious because i have Chinese and Tufted roman and crosses between the two. I call my crossbreeds Tufted Chinese lol Id love to see pics of them either way!

Well I'll be a monkeys uncle. LOL We candled them and we have FOUR babies growing!!!!!!!!!! She laid another egg today at some point.

Because now I have SIX. I took two of them and put them in the fridge as they had nothing yet. But we saw one of the babies moving around. I have to put them back, just don't have it in us to destroy them. But I still am not sure WHO they belong to but I do know who is sitting on them. And I have NEVER seen my male mate with the young female. What a strange thing to find in the middle of summer. I thought breeding season was over LOL. I was told they are Crested Chinese. They have a bump at the beginning of their beak. We are "newbies" as I like to call us. LOL So, you are not a smarty pants

. Thank you for helping us. I say the more the better. Because the Goose and Chicken lover is just getting her feet wet. I have lots to learn and I need people who are willing to teach me. I just Love Backyard Chickens.
Fred is in the front (what might be my young female), then Lucy, and last is Ricky. I thought Lucy and Ricky were a mating pair but it seems maybe Ricky is having an affair with Fred. LOL
Thanks.
I would Love to see your Geese
I will keep everyone posted on the progress of these eggs.
Is there anything I need to do or just let them take care of it all???

First congrats on the possible new babies that are on the way. I guess anything is possible lol im like you i couldnt destroy them either. As for needing to do anything else id just let her take care of everything and just keep an eye on her just in case. Id also say they were her eggs and they can be sneaky about breeding if you arent used to listening for the ganders squeals of pleasure. You have White Chinese geese which are gorgeous! The "bump" or Knob on their bill is just a characteristic trait of the chinese. The people that said crested didnt know what they were talking about, crested is for ducks and means a "crown" of feathers on top of the head, Tufted is for geese and means about the same thing. The knob will get bigger as they get older and the gander will have the biggest knob depending on his age compared to the others. I have both White and Brown chinese and Tufted Romans with crosses between them all. The White chinese and Brown chinese cross is still a pure chinese, you just get splashes of white on a brown background lol ill post my pics in the next post after this.
