it wouldent suprise me that his geese will go from 200 down to 50 around christmas time

Thats what i thought. I dont mind that people eat geese, i would if i got one i didnt raise, but im not going to send mine to a butcher.

I'm in the middle of the pet vs food debate. I always kept a few of the Embden babies for the freezer. BUT there is no way any Dewlaps are gonna be anyone's dinner.

Ducks, scovies, chickens and rabbits are destined for freezer camp. Not my favorite activity but I like and trust my meat better then what you find in the store. It's all a personal choice and no one is wrong in their choice. IMO

My debate is with myself!! I know it makes sense to rear your own for food, and I did for a bit..extra cockerels and muscovies were dispatched by my very able next-door-neighbour, but he´s moved away. I did kill a duck a while back, all correctly, but I hated it. Can´t forget it. Don´t want to do it again, so I give them to other folks who have no qualms about them being on a plate.......and I BUY free-range chicken for us to eat!!

True enough...well, as they say..each to his own. I wish I were able to get on and do the deed without blinking. But I just like them too much!! I´m just so pleased no-one around here eats geese, or I´d keep the lot!!!

Wherever you are it´ll happen....I have a friend here who has iguanas, another who loves gheckos, and I know people who eat lizards (

) and kill gheckos....A year ago I pulled an armadillo out of a hole in my veg patch. I let it go, of course....some of my friends think I was amazingly brave, and others wonder why we didn´t eat it!!!

I´ve been giving my unwanted muscovy males to various neighbours. They basically live off the land around here, mainly farmers, and don´t have a problem killing them. I can´t keep all the birds, and the locals like getting freebies, so it works out well. They just put me down to being foreign, I´m sure!!

Being born and raised in Florida we saw Armadillos a lot and never once thought to my self Yum I bet that would taste good

saw a lot of lizards too an never had a desire to eat any.

To each his own I guess.
