GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

River goddess what mix of breed of geese do you have behind your black sheep?!
My sebbies are not mixed they are just the smooth breasted. Bought eggs from a BYC'er here & kept only the smooth, where most keep the curly's. I have 1 male & 2 females. I then have the one goose I got from auction who looks like a Pom-ish goose? But I know she is a girl & have raised her from a baby.

I'm guessing I'll be overrun in about a month with babies everywhere!

WOW thats gunna be alot of babies!

RG, your first shipment of eggs for 2014 are on their way to you!
Miss L, we're right on track to send eggs to you on Saturday!

Shimmer (my top prize dewlap) laid her 1st egg today, so now I can start filling my larger dewlap orders.

I may not be hatching anything myself, but I am excited to watch everyone hatch eggs from my geese.

for great hatches!!

Are people hatching geese eggs in an incubator or under a ex. Muscovy? I am planning to hatch Giant Dewlap Toulouse eggs in an Genesis 1588 incubator fan and egg turner. DH is planning to convert the chicken egg turner.

When I was reading some it seemed goose eggs do not need a turner? The way he would make the turner the egg would lay side ways in kind of a moat. I would appreciate any links and or input before I take these eggs and investment and stick them in the incubator. We will probably hatch 6 or so.

Is there a link for how to hatch goose eggs?

Question and probably lots more, when eggs arrive should I leave all she has laid that I haven't taken out to check. Right now she has 5 eggs in the nest and will lay # 9 on Friday. thinking she may see all the eggs and feel she has the right amount? another Q, when she does begin to sit then should I begin to take her eggs out of the nest slowly or all at once?. Q3 if she doesn't go broody right away what kind of window do we have before the eggs won't be fitting to sit on?

I would date all the eggs. Once Beignet's eggs arrive, swap out the oldest eggs. I've seen eggs over two weeks old develop, so I think you have at least a few days after you get them for her to go broody before the oldest egg may lose fertility. I would leave a full clutch, candle after a week and toss non-developers.
