GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

Woke up to one tiny, wet turkey poult this morning. But no geese or ducks yet, not even a pip, so I'll be checking that thing every half an hour or so and generally not getting anything else done. It's better than Christmas!

Two baby turkeys dry in the incubator and ready to go into the brooder. One welsh harlequin pipped and working on zipping. Three muscovies with no pips yet (day 37) and 3 goose eggs with no pips yet, either (day 31).

Lucky you! Do you happen to know if emu eggs happen to fit in a tabletop styrofoam incubator. I know yours is mighty, but mine is not. Also, don't know if you still have egyptians, but do you know if they interbreed with other ducks and geese?
I only got one and it was REALLY flighty. So you need a flight pen. I believe I was told they do not interbreed but if I could be wrong.a I never have had a styrofoam, so I do not know how big they are ? Sorry

RiverGoddess how come so many of the EMU eggs...???

I want 4 for myself, and have 3 other people who want pairs. So I thought 12-ish would been a good start.
And I checked into babies ... they want $100 each for them here.

So I can get 6 for $100. Seems like a better choice

Just because I get 12 doesn't mean they will all hatch. My 1st time last year ~ I bought 8 fresh eggs & hatched 4. Maybe I will do better this year???

I bought a new brahma cockerel last weekend, and while I was there, I noticed an emu egg. The guy says they´re getting very popular here. I´ve not seen one here yet, except in a zoo, but I´ll keep my eyes open. I´m not sure I´d want them, though, I can imagine they´d be all over the farms around here, not where they should be!

Anyway, here´s my new brahma. I´m pleased with him, just have to wait for him to grow now. I took the pic a bit wonky, he´s not drunk! :)
