I've never YET had an egg burst in the bator, but I have had some duck eggs start leaking fluid, I'm guessing that was the start of something worse. OH and YES did it ever stinkOh my g.... Ugh. It's bad enough in the yard, that must be horrible inside! Yikes.
My geese are very similar, except for the fat and lazy bit..they fly up to see what´s happening. I have muscovy ducklings and chicks here, and the geese are great with them, but shoo away the mothers! I love my geese, my favourites out of all of my birds. They do! And, though this may just be mine, not just baby geese but baby EVERY bird! Mine snakeneck any adult bird that comes near them with their goslings but they will just gently nudge other species babies out of the way. And while they're focused on their own young, they're aware of others'. They don't step on them, they acknowledge them, and they want to know who they are. They have zero curiosity or interest in the adults (unless other birds are mating near them but that's a completely different subject).
Not only that, but if other species' hatchlings seem distressed, every single goose and gander in my yard that's not on a nest, yes even the ones with goslings, will perk up and come over to make sure those kids are OK (assuming it's not too far of a walk - they love babies and are protective but they're also fat and lazy - in other words... geese). I've been confronted by much of my flock of geese when I was handling new-hatched poults.
Looks like they might both be little girls.
So. Stinkin'. CUTE!
