OMG...I think I have the West Texas branch of the goose mafia in my yard.....![]()
Hi
Pablo, my gander was chased two times by teo diferent cats and he didn't do anything, If I havent made loud noises to scare the cats, I think they would catch my baby....
In my pen it's different, the mafia are my 5 mallards, every stranger that enters to the pen they bite them and chase it to mark leadership. I think that If the cats try to chase one of my mallards, I think that will repent to do it and never try it again.
I'm not surprised. The geese (not just mine but all) intimidate migratory birds and make them carry messages and threats around the country/world. Geese of all breeds are a syndicate.![]()
The Canada Geese are the migratory hit men.
(it all makes sense now, doesn't it?)
Explains all the honking when other birds are around. Thought they were just protecting their food but they are actually passing message to be relayed. So, rival gangs would be what we call predators? The mask on raccoons makes a lot more sense with this new perspective.I'm not surprised. My mallards are aggresive because they think I'm the mama, they are imrpinted in me and all the new birds that enter to the pen, they chase it. When I try to fight with them, they don't do anything, they love me pet them. But the hen I found, when I try to handle it, he quacks loud, my babies when i have them on my arms and they don't want to stay quack but is not the same.Oh that's amazing! I don't keep mallards but I've run into wild ones when I was a child and they come to my pond now but are very skittish and fly off. That's incredible that yours are so feisty! I'm literally laughing out loud picturing them battling the cats!
If you just sit and watch geese, you´ll find that they don´t cuddle, (except for when they´re tiny and need heat), and if they do touch, it´s just a little poke. Most of the time a goose will move away from another goose that wants to 'touch' it, because it´s going to get poked. just watch....but they don´t mind poking you!Do geese not like to be touched? They are very friendly and chew on me all the time, but I can't pet them.
So true mine will come up to chew on me but petting them they aren't fond of. I can still touch my 2 goslings but they aren't that crazy about it anymore either. I noticed Sammy will poke very gently at the 2 goslings it's so sweet almost like a love tap. No love taps for me thoughIf you just sit and watch geese, you´ll find that they don´t cuddle, (except for when they´re tiny and need heat), and if they do touch, it´s just a little poke. A lot of the others will come around and let me just touch their chest, then move off. Or...gather around behind me and pick and poke....![]()
