Well I haven't cracked any open since she first started to lay, I don't recall it looking fertile then. Maybe I'll grab one out of the nest and see if they are fertile.

I haven't seen his man parts, but I have seen him make contact with her, she lifts and he/she (tufted) will curl around like a rooster to a hen? I haven't heard any kind of yell either afterward. There is never more than one egg laid a day that I can tell. Unless they are alternating, which I'm sure is possible. The tufted seems to take on the roll of protecter, but I guess that could be any dominant gender? The person I got them from told he was pretty sure tufted was a gander due to the way he acted, then when I saw him mount I was convinced. But I could be wrong.

8geeseAlaying, thanks for chiming in on the chest plucking issue and following along with all the other stuff.

I pre-ordered holderead ducklings and goslings sometime in January. So they'll be here anytime next month-June. I'm not sure I want these guys raising them though, they aren't tame in the least. They've only been here a month I guess, and I think the guy who had them just left them alone with the other animals in a big pasture for the most part, but they don't want to get any closer than 6 feet away from me. The only treat they seem to like is soft grass hay, and even then won't touch it until I'm gone. I move slow and talk softly, that seems to help at least keep them from panicking. They are in a 30x18 pen until they adjust to the place a little more, but I'm sure that seems pretty small to them. After reading some taming threads I think I'll start trying to sit in there and talking to them or something like that.

How is the Tuffed acting towards you? my 2 ganders are hissing and would bite me in a sec if I let them.

The tufted is the only one who hisses and holds his head low and straight out from the body. And he gave me a half hearted charge yesterday. The saddle back girl just honks really loud with her head high in the air, face pointed up.

Tufted is back on the nest again, has been there for about 20-25 minutes.

Editing because the saddle back is on the actual nest, tufted is just sitting next to her.

Female geese have a low pitched honk ganders are high pitched. my ganders both stand around with head held high in the air my females just walk around like normal geese. You've got to have at least one goose since your getting eggs. But they sure are making it difficult.

Far away, but this is them sitting together, saddleback is on the nest

Tufted hissing at the gate, she was running still on the nest

Yesterday's egg, do we think it's fertile?

She jumped off when I walked over, tufted ran in front and stood over the eggs hissing at me. He ended up lightly biting me and chest bumping my knee when I went for an egg.
