GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

Rabid! LOL He's feisty due to breeding season then? They are good at hiding it all under beautiful feathers.
Yep in full swing here. My youngest gander acts all bad till I put my arms up in the air and come towards him he turns tail and runs but my oldest oh my gosh he never learns.
So tells us the latest is Mr Mom still sitting on the nest and has your female laid anymore eggs since he started sitting full time?

Well I had to rush out the door to work early for a meeting. I work nights, so I'm "working" now.

Anyway, I only glanced to check on them and water/food. But She was over there, probably laying an egg and He was laying next to her. So far that's been the pattern, she will lay an egg and fuss with the nest for about 20 minutes a day while he lays right next to her. Then he takes back over and I really never see him off the nest, even when she is one the nest he is right there.

Friday is when he started staying on the nest full time and there were 7-8 eggs. I peaked again Sunday and there were ten eggs, so she seems to still be laying. I don't think he's left the nest to breed her, so my plan is to mark all the eggs so I can remove any new ones she lays. Do you think I should candle the eggs this weekend? Or should I just leave them alone?

I candled and 16 out of the 25 original eggs are live. I added 4 more on the 15th and cant tell with them yet.
Im going to give the no shows a few days to decide if they are alive or not before I toss them.

16 labeled alive started on the 11th, plain circles are probably duds(no shows), and non circled #s started on the number labeled with (one 12 and four 15s). The 12 is actually alive and labeled as goose 9. does my system make sense? So long as I understand...LOL

They look great, and if the system makes sense to you that's what counts.

I'd candle usually by day 7 you can see what's going on. Bless his heart if he isn't leaving you maybe should make him get up to eat and drink they can get pretty weak if the don't eat and you don't want him dehydrated. Maybe she feels since she has a surrogate she doesn't need to sit. ?? very strange, but you have actually seen mating [with view of penis] and heard the mating call? the ganders make?

]Can a baby gosling be with the parents? I just had one hatch this morning , at what time do you introduce to the parents

I have 2 baby ducks and the sebbie are very interested in the ducks its cue

I'd give the gosling time to get a bit stronger I waited 3 weeks some do it at 2. what ever you decide let the parents get use to the baby before you let them have it so you'll know they have accepted it as their own. I'm sure the gosling is interested in the duckling they are close enough in looks for some imprinting.

Yep, candling them on day 7 is what I meant. Well we cracked open a couple eggs (I posted pictures on here) and they were fertile. They are the only two I have, and the only two the previous owner had. I've seen him mount her, they don't let me get close enough to see the penis. They'll run away, I'm pretty sure they were just in a huge pasture and never handled or given treats/incentives to like humans. I haven't heard a mating call. Could the duck be breeding them?? I haven't noticed him trying though.

I've tried to get him off the nest to eat and drink, but he will just walk right back on and hiss at me, or give me a bite for my trouble. Once he just stood with his wings out and shouted at me. Or if I'm looking at the eggs he'll sit right right across from me and hiss.

I sometimes wonder if she would sit if he wasn't always on them? She can get him to move off to lay an egg, but he'll just sit as close as goosely possible, and get right back on after she lays. It's weird for sure. Is there anyway I could actually gender check him without hurting him?
