Hello,

I've been reading threads on this forum for a while, but this is the first time I've posted.

At current I have a small backyard flock. 3 chickens, 1 duck and a goose (Roman tufted/Sebastopol mix). The Goose recently went super broody and was determined to hatch something out (even tho her nest was empty) so I ordered some duck eggs and let her have a go. I kept one egg out in an incubator to see if they were Viable. They were! So I gave her that last egg... unfortunately while she was re settling everything one broke open. and it was a mess.... and she was super frantic to get the mess out of the nest.

I helped her clean up and wiped off the other eggs but I was wondering if that is going to cause problems later on? contaminate or encourage bacteria with the other eggs? Since a couple of them were pretty gooey X( . I used dry paper towel to clean them up and tried to get all the yucky bedding out.

hello @Phinnie ! welcome to BYC :frow
I can't help with your question, but wish you the best of luck with them :fl

Thanks, she's doing a good job. I have a feeling that the Nest she had constructed was just large enough for the 9 and one more sort of bunched them up making her sit on them wrong.

50/50 chance it'll contaminate the other eggs. Duck eggs are about to fragile for geese to set on, shells aren't thick enough to take the weight of a goose.

I would usually agree, but she's a pretty small goose. About the size of a Jersey Giant, So hopefully they'll hold out :(. ! she's still got the other nine and she's diligently tending to them. If they aren't contaminated. :fl

Her clumsiness came from the Sebastopol side perhaps. My dad is a big time Sebastopol fan, but I like utility birds more than the fancy types

yeah she is a bit of a goof on her feet. She's definitely extra careful on the nest.

I candled all of them yesterday and they are all Viable from what I can see. Developing well. So hopefully that means no contamination.
