Hello,
I am probably just worrying as it's close (ISH) to hatch day.

I have one West of England goose egg in the incubator on day 26. I candled it and set it into lockdown but haven't seen any movement. I keep worrying because the person I got them from had not had great fertility and I would love for this little one to hatch.

Could the lack of movement be that it was so big it can't move anymore? It's day 26 but West of England's usually take 29-30 days.

If it does hatch, I have some ducklings due the same day so it won't be alone.

Thank you x

I've incubated quite a few goose eggs and not all of them move (at least while I'm looking, lol). I expect to see them shift at least slightly when they're getting into hatching position, but have learned that even those that don't look like they've moved at all may still hatch. 🙂 As long as the veins still look active, I know they have a chance.

Best of luck! Please keep us posted.

Awesome, thank you.

I'm pretty sure I'm just a little nervous for hatch as I haven't hatched geese in a few years. Il probably post a photo when I candle tonight just to check that everything looks normal x

These are the pictures from the egg. Looks like it still has good veins and stuff so might just be missing it move x

If your worried about positioning of the gosling I'd recommend giving the egg a good looking at once a day without changing its orientation when it goes back into the incubator. Especially if candling doesn't give you a good idea of where the gosling will pip. I had one in March that pipped on the wrong end and on the bottom of the egg. If I'd noticed sooner the gosling would have had a fair chance of making it. As it was it didn't have a chance. I think part of the problem was I didn't move birds to the brooder right away so some of the eggs were moved around before they pipped.
