Goose egg - hatching

No, it's not hatching too soon. If the shadowing just started it could be quite awhile before the egg hatches; be patient. I wouldn't do an air hole yet if the internal pipping has just started. Try to keep the humidity up.

I had duck eggs start internal pipping four days ago and hatched yesterday.

If Chinese geese they'd have a bit of swan look; long graceful necks with a knob over the bill.
I was a nervous Nellie also & this is my 2nd Spring hatch. I've lost three so far - 1 was a week early & didn't make it, 2 were breach & never hatched, & the 4th is absolutely beautiful!! I call her Cleopatra (she has gorgeous dark lines around her eyes) Cleo for short. I have 40 more eggs in the incubator & if there are no power shortages, hopefull some will hatch. I read a really good article about not having beening good for the duck to only have1.. If nothing comes about with any of the 40 eggs I will buy a couple at Tractor Supply. I appreciate all the suggestions & comments given. It nice to have all the feed back.

It's hard to be patient. I get giddy every time one hatches.
For me too; easy to say just not easy to do. My first turkey poult of this season hatched this morning; a second will soon be hatched; Eastern Wild Turkeys.

I, too, worry about power outages. I'm in the country and last power outage lasted a week. The incubator is full of eggs. With severe storms happening ALL the time, it's a huge concern.

Glad to be of help to you.

Good luck to you.

I have power outages in my place often. I recently bought one if those large emergency batteries / camping batteries. It has worked well for me. Just have to watch for spikes in temperature (one or my incubator does this when it's plug in).

Would this keep a freezer going during an outage?

I'm not sure, depends on the wattage of the appliance. It's made for camping mostly.

I'll attach the information from the seller for your information.

It's from China and I bought it from an online shopping platform.

Thank you. We will research this and see if it will meet our needs. Last winter we had an outage that lasted a week. The biggest loss was the food stuffs in the freezer.

I'm glad to have a generator this time of year - at least I can power incubators!
We have a portable generator my husband hooks up when we know what's going to happen (most of the time) but when you have trees hitting power lines due to lack of water that's another story, especially since they just went through neighborhoods, told everybody what trees were supposedly dying & they had to be cut down. Now the neighborhood looks like it's been hit by a Tsami. Some trees look perfectly healthy.
