Hi, my 2 pet geese Dandelion and Flo have started mating, Dandelion is almost 5 and Flo is 2, when should I expect eggs? My friend is interested in some eggs and I told him I'd keep him some, how long would the be viable for when turned daily? Also I was thinking of letting them hatch a small clutch of eggs is that possible? Dandelion has never sat but this is the first breeding season she has had with Flo. By leaving the eggs will that encourage her to sit? Thank you

It sounds like you don't know the sex of your geese? Are they both females? Or is Flo a gander? Males never set.

Mine haven't started laying yet here in Wisconsin. I expect to see some within the next month or so. Eggs are best kept for no more 10 days for the best chance of incubation, although within a nest eggs can, and do sit longer while the goose assembles a clutch. Most geese will set a clutch unless run off by a more dominant pair.

Sorry I didnt specify clearly, Dandelion is a female and lays eggs every year, and flo was supposed to be a female but his previous owner pulled a fast one and gave me him! He's mean but he doesn't bite.... yet :)

Hopefully Dandelion decides to brood her eggs this year. They do seem to know they need a gander to get babies.

I would crack open a few first eggs to see if they look fertile and have the bullseye around the Germinal disk.

Males can sit. I've read a lot on the internet a bout it. Ganders will give the goose a break and co parent.
