I made this post a couple days ago: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...c-wont-walk-unresponsive-please-help.1298873/
Yesterday evening, she really just wasn't looking right. I noticed what I thought was an egg protruding from her belly, so I ran to Walmart to get a carrier and brought her to the emerg vet. The "egg" turned out to be a large pocket of pus collecting beneath a large wound. The wound is very deep, infected, and was beginning to be necrotic. They had to sedate her and surgically clean the whole thing out. The vet has given her only a 50/50 chance to live. Kicking myself for not bringing the poor thing in when I first noticed she was off..
She can't return to the pond, her wound can not even get wet. So I had to bring her home with me. I have her set up in a crate right now, with paper towels as bedding. We were instructed to put a t shirt on her to prevent her from pecking at her wound.
She will have to see a specialist bird vet in the next couple days to keep a close eye on the wound and figure out the best plan, and hopefully eventually have the wound sutured up, if it heals
She needs antibiotics every 12 hours, and pain meds every 24. The vet suggested soaking the medicine in some bread (not good for them I know, but necessary right now), but she won't eat at all - normal bread, even. I'm going to call the vet, but does anyone know how I could coax her to eat?
Does anyone have any suggestions at all to help her feel more comfortable at all? Any suggestions for bedding, etc, just general suggestions?
We're trying to keep the house as quiet as can be. I was thinking about maybe playing some pond/lake noises through a bluetooth speaker?
Thanks so much for any help.
