I should add though, that there is a vaccine that can be given to the uninfected birds, and that if the bird survives, it will be immune to it from then on. I was given different advice about applying iodine, and other things, but I think that only served to worsen the condition and allowing it to run it's course was the better way to go.Thank you for that information sorry fowl pox isn’t something I have much knowledge about? Do you think this could be fowl pox on this goose?
I can't stress enough how important it is to quarantine the bird. I'd also contact your vet for antibiotics to add to it's water to prevent secondary infection (which is what they usually die from). You'll want to make sure that you don't cross contaminate. Feed and water your healthy birds first, then the infected one. Don't wear the same shoes or clothing when going back into the healthy birds area. Dispose of the infected birds bedding, etc in plastic bags and place in the garbage. Wear latex disposable gloves. I wish you the best of luck. I lost my sweet bird this morning after constant care for 8 weeks, but she was a baby and it's harder on the little, or old ones. Please keep us posted.Hi after looking at some pictures online of Fowl Pox I agree that is what it is. Here are a few more pictures. Only one bird is back with him but so far he is not affected so I will be getting the vaccine and treating everyone on the farm. I can't thank you enough for identifying this from the pics.
