Hello
1f600.png

Wandering if someone can help us out. We have 5 gorgeous geese but we are not sure the breed and if they are male/female. This is our first time having geese so not sure at what to look for. We ordered African geese but we're not certain they are. I have a picture of what we think is our gander and we have named him Ryan and he is 11 weeks old.

I shall post a pic of the other 4 as soon as I can get them to stand still, but any help would be great.

Thanks
Fiona

Welcome to BYC and what a gorgeous goose. From all I have read most hatcheries don't send African it's a mix of African /Chinese. I maybe wrong and someone correct me but seems I read that. What ever they are gorgeous. Look forward to seeing the rest.

Thank you for all you reply's, when does the little knob appear or is that just if they are all African. Can I assume he is a he?
You can assume that he is a he but you may not know until he either knobs out or she lays an egg. The thing is that if he/she is a mix (and I suspect that is the case) the knob may not develop or may only slightly develop. Looking more closely at your picture I am leaning toward an African/Toulouse mix in which case he/she will probably not knob out at all.

Thank you. We were thinking about Toulouse mix but not sure, it doesn't look like he is starting to knob but I guess we will have to wait and see.

Okay so I finally got snaps of the rest

This is daisy again not sure if male/female but I think Chinese/Toulouse mix again, orange beak and feat.

This is olive we are thinking African and female we also have patch which is the double of olive with both of them having pink beak and feat

And last we have big bird we are thinking female but not sure on breed

Pic not the best but she is all white pink beak and feet and no sign of knob.
Any help would be great as we are going a bit crazy trying to google for answers.

Where did you get your geese from? They are pretty, looks like the white one maybe Chinese just hasn't gotten the knob yet and possibly Pomeranian 2nd pic look them up on line and also there is a Pom thread here too.

Big Bird looks to have Chinese in her too. just looking at her bill shape.
