LOL, I could envy your weather. I'll tell DH we should plan a mid winter fence building at your place. An nice warm island, no snow, no 60 mph freezing winds. Sounds lovely in February.

Thats funny about the dewlaps! I never got any eggs, so I guess we're gonna wait for March- April (which is when most geese in kansas feel inspired) for reproduction here. In the meantime, their are cats to chase, and ducks to pester. At least, if your one of my geese. My grey cat is queer for the geese, and they don't like him. Its too funny to watch him sneaking up on them, only to lay nearby until they spy him. The africans and he are playing a cat and goose game. Its the only thing that neutered male has done in monthes.

yep we have pretty nice winters and is why we get goose egg so much earlier than others. Hubby told me this morning I need to separate my white sebbies from the others. Guess he saw our lead gander going off on the younger boys. We are 30 days out on breeding yards being put up. Guess I need to measure and material list what is needed for this years yards.

I have indoor outdoor cats. Mostly I kick them out! They are just lazy neutered males and 1 overly ambitious and aggressive spayed lady who beats the boys up. Shes front end declawed and all, but she hates other cats. And dogs. And birds. And everything but food and people. She wouldn't even tolerate her littermates.

So, I'm checking again, but a 6" deep pool is enough for goose mating? Just seems so small.

It's bad here today.... got about 2+" on ground with it falling pretty hard still. The geese don't seem to mind and are acting their usual selves. However, Spirit was stuck, so I already had to trek out into the white stuff this morning to pick him up. Spirit wanted to get put in the kiddie pool.... I hope he can get out by himself because otherwise I will have to lift him out of the slush and just the thought of that makes me feel cold.

Just gotta get through today then we will be back to sunshine, warmer temps, and green grass... if only for a few more weeks.

Spirit is an excellent communicator! I just wish I could get the surgery done NOW instead of having to stress over him slipping and splaying in this snow. 12 more days until his operation will not get here soon enough!!

Yep... I once had a fish named Atticus ... and my sis in law has a dog named Atticus. It is a great name with great meaning.

No, their names are based on the father character in "To Kill a Mockingbird", who was played in the film by the incomparable Gregory Peck. If you have never seen this movie, you MUST rent it and watch it. It is one of the best films ever made.
Yes, and its a good read too! I like the names too. Congrats on the new geese. My adoptees are "Dude" a grey male dewlap toulouse, and "Shadrach, Meshack, and Abednigo" are the white african trio. Its from 3 fellows in The Bible who were cast into the firely furnace, but were saved by the grace of God. It seemed like a good name for geese that were almost made into people food.....
