She seems ok if laying down. She just ate a handful of grass by hand from me. Then she attempted walking, which visibly hurt her as she immediately climbed into my lap and buried her head in my hair. But she recovered pretty quick and keeps trying. If she continues to make progress today, I will make a small outdoor pen for her and Ember to go into tomorrow, as I think she will be ready to try being outside.

Spirit has been making great progress today. She started to get upset when I would leave her, so I threw together a 2nd pen and put Ember in with her. Ember isn't very happy, but Spirit is better. I was very happily surprised to see this when I walked into room to check on them a few minutes ago.

Yes! She was just standing there chatting with Ember when I entered room. She remained standing, testing pressure of toes on the broken leg/foot. I am definitely going to put her in a 10x10 pen outside tomorrow with Ember... then while they are outside, I will enlarge indoor so that I can put Ember and Spirit in same pen and Spirit will have space to test walking around.

That is so amazing. The Universe loves your goose, Iain.

Was glad to read that Spirit had a friend next to her they do get lonely when they have to be in a small area for a long time. She will get stronger each week. I know when I could let Gloria out for very small walks at first she tried to over due and tried to get out with the gang.
My husband was trying to shoot a racoon who was killing out ducks and the pellets bounched off the ground and hit Gloria in her pen and shattered her leg. She had the pens and rods in her leg just like Spirit has.
Looks like Spirit is doing just like Gloria did so this is a very good thing........

Ember looks beyond not thrilled to be inside, her company is so good for Spirit though. Hope you wake to her feeling strong again today and able to get some yard time.

Friendly reminder to all planning to breed what you have............you need to get all breeding stock NPIP before shipping any hatching eggs or hatchlings shipped out. Its mid November now and even though you "think" you have for ever, you really dont. Many states will get swamped as the first of the year comes around. Also be aware some states have strict testing rules above what most test for. Hawaii requires permits and testing approved before you can send. A few others have similar rules and or additional testing required.
