Wow. First glad you and your hubby as well as horses came through he Kamikaze deer incident okay. Also, so very glad you have such a wonderfully skilled vet and the Spirit did well with her surgery. What a little darling...one can't help but love her!

Thanks for the warm wishes!! Spirit is doing pretty well. She is off her food, but drinking well and eagerly swallows up her meticam. She is relaxed and learning how to pull her leg under her.

As for the accident, it was awful but at least with a 3/4 ton truck, it does not have the same impact as it would if we were in our plastic framed honda civic. I have taken great care to have safety with my rig with the best quality tires, brakes and suspension for truck and trailer. Now that it has been put to the test, I'm glad to know it probably made a difference. As for the damage to the truck, I can live with the dents, and since I do my own mechanical repairs, hope this will only cost a few hundred bucks and a few days of labor.

Hope the repairs go well Janet. Did the Vet give you an idea of time line for Spirit and things you hope to see progressing by day X post surgery? Hows the new mare doing?

I just got to spend 2g on new tires for hubbies car.

or well we will when they come in next week. He drove to base today for appointments and on his way home went across something that did a number on one of his tires. Since they are directional low profile sport tires its 4 new here we go. They were on the books to be replace Dec/Jan. Now we get to be 1 car family for a week and uumm I am so not looking forward to that. odd the things we get use to, like two cars and not being worried about schedules.

How is everyone doing after the time change? I personally hate it and the earlier sundown (even if we do still have daylight at 6 right now)

I hate the time change Celtic. I have to start putting the animals up around 5:15 PM (central time) and it is completely dark by 5:30-ish. They can't be let out until around 7 AM, so they are only getting 10 hours outside a day right now. My body is still on its old clock, meaning I get up automatically around 4:30 AM and then can't go back to sleep. Argh!

Ouch....that is a lot of money for tires. I remember nearly having the big one when I purchased snow tires (2 years before coming to Louisiana where they will NEVER be needed) and it costing almost $1,300.

Janet...glad their was minimal damage to your truck and that you can do all the repairs "in house". Being able to do the work yourself saves a ton of expense!

Thanks, Shellie. He was more emphasizing things to watch for that are trouble signs for the next few days and he wants to see her either Friday or Monday for check up. He said the next few days will be the worst and that it will get better from there. He said she was using a different leg muscle set because of the rotation and that it will take time for the normal set to develop. He also said that he expects her to drag toe at first until she learns to adjust use of the knee joint to compensate for lack of flexion at the ankle, but expects her to figure it out in the next few weeks. He believes that because of the strength of her bones and the vertical rod implanted that she should be mobile pretty quickly.

Patience is doing great, thanks! OUCH on your tires!! FYI, I did not receive your box yesterday, but am on the look out for it today.

Here is Spirit this morning. In the 2nd picture, she was stretching the leg. She's never had her leg flush back along her body like that before.
