Spirit got the all clear for me to leave. Vet was grinning from ear to ear watching video of her being a "normal" goose in her new outside pen. Hubby ran through Spirit's routine with best friend last night in my absence, so I guess I am about as ok as I am going to get about leaving her.
Truck needed a major repair ... fortunately, the shop is owned by the avian sanctuary guy, so we worked on until 1am to get it fixed.
Hubby has to work until 7pm, so we are planning to depart tonight. Lots to do today to finish getting ready, but we will be good to go by this evening!
Here is the latest update from Carole on the breakdown of younger geese:
All 11 babies sexed; 37 adolescents sexed out of 54.
Babies, 3 mos/under:
white, 1 male
African, 1 male
Buff, 1 male
Greys, 6 males/2females
Adolescents on the cemetery lawn: (males marked with green paint on leg, females with red, unmarked not sexed)
Whites: 5 females, 2 males
Buffs: HERE IS THE VERY GOOD NEWS! 4 females, 8 males
Greys: ALSO, 7 males, 2 females
African: ALSO, 6 males, 3 females
Excellent news on spirit and the update on the geese as well. Sorry the truck needed more work than expected. Safe travels, looking forward to your updates and pictures.
just wanted to wish you luck. i believe you and everyone helping will be rewarded with tons of good karma for this. its said nations should be judged by the way they treat their animals, well if so you are sure making us all look good
Plan is coming together nicely. We will be taking a shorter trip out/back and expect to arrive here Monday morning. I have two excellent and very experienced volunteers who will be at my place to help unload in a procession... we will vent sex, attach aluminum number id tags on them, and take pics of each before turning them out onto the pasture.
