UPDATE: After not having any success this morning finding the insulated packaging for the blood samples, hubby and I decided to drive the vials directly to the lab, which was 1 hour, 45 minutes away. We took our dogs and hit a scenic byway for a quick hike afterwards, so we had a very nice afternoon. The lab said tests will by done by Friday and results emailed to myself and the state vet. Upon our return, we discovered that the shipping boxes had been delivered and were sitting in our garage.

Tomorrow we will set a box up with bedding & fruit for total weight. We will also weigh sample geese, so hopefully we will have shipping estimates to circulate to everyone by the end of the day.

Lightning, I got your pm and will send you a reply in a little bit.... but first I need to change water in kiddy pools and get everyone fed before dark.

So glad to hear you got to have an adventure with the dogs while doing "work" too. Thats a win/win situation. Of course, I love day hikes, so I'm totally jealous. I know what your scenery looks like.

Are you sad and excited to start sending all of your new friends to their forever homes?

Hey there Marty. Glad you had a nice day today. Hopefully the worst of this awful summer is behind us. I am happy we took our dogs with us and spent a little time on Mt. Nebo loop (a national scenic byway). The loop is 40 miles and climbs from 5,000 to 9,000 elevation (and back down). Needless to say, the views were breathtaking, but more than a little scary with 10mph hairpin switchbacks with no guardrails and steep drop offs. I was glad to not be pulling my horses for that trip. Anyway, it was a nice way to turn an otherwise irritating situation into a pleasant one.

Overall, I am more excited than sad to send these guys home, but there are certain ones that I am particularly fond of that will be hard to say goodbye.

Wow, that does sound simultaneously terrifying and exhilarating. I don't think a Kansas girl like me (even though it IS NOT FLAT in Eastern Kansas) would be comfortable with 10 mph hairpin curves, but I'd sure like the view! What you describe remind me of Real De Catorce in Mexico where you go from dessert floor up 1.6 miles and through a tunnel in a mountain to get to an amazing little city in the clouds.

I've still be coming on to read, but I don't seem to post much now. Since I'm not adopting any rescue geese, I just like to keep up with the adventures and preparations of others.

I have been following too Marty even though I don't have anything to offer but good wishes and prayers that all goes well when shipping begins. We live in the mountains of NC and we don't have extreme elevation like ya'll but the Blue Ridge parkway offers some pretty exciting hairpin turns and beautiful views also, it's just not a good idea for the driver to be looking at the views. lol even here where we live it can get pretty exciting during the winter when ice and snow are on the roadways. lots of mountain roads. I love it though.

I'm excited to get my flock all together, although I plan on spending alot of time to begin with ensuring Squishy doesn't become a bratt.

Morning all, hubby's fatty 4 pack have really taken on a new persona the last few days. They charge the crows when they try and steal some food, come when we call bed time and head for the rear gate. They are packing on pounds like mad right now too. Won't, repeat won't, be adding corn to their diet. They don't need it, and I am anti GMO, and well buying whole corn just doesn't sit right with me. We can't completely get away from the destruction of GMO grains since they are everywhere from corn and soybeans to cotton and tomatoes. However I don't have to feed whole GMO corn to the geese.

Have the temps dropping helped those of you fighting the crispy grass?

It has here and with the arrival of Issac we got RAIN

. It looks like spring outside and the geese are loving being in the "pasture" all day.

Sue thats great. We just finished having Isaac's wrap around second visit. Rather tired of it, and we arent done yet with TS and Hurricanes.
