I post the below info on a duck thread, but know most of you dont read over there.

So why on earth I thought I needed to fix something that wasnt broke is beyond me. I will never ever stray from what I test, blend and feed first hand again. Its not worth a little financial savings to play catch up from an obvious crap diet change.

Iain, enjoy next week. Will have to do some serious juggling the week of the 22nd, we are booked solid with retirement crap the entire week already. It will be hubbies last official week as active duty before being on leave until his official retirement day comes.

Sorry to hear the flock raiser didn't work. While it is nice to save money, it isn't worth doing at the expense of your birds. Gosh, I wish somebody here carried the Mazuri feed. I have asked a few stores to order it for me, but the only response I got was a look like I had two heads.

Also, congratulations on your hubby's retirement! My sister's husband is retiring from the Air Force too. His last day of active duty is October 30th with his official retirement in February 2013, so I have some idea what you are going through! So, is your hubby going to work away from home after "retirement" or stay there and work on the farm with you?

Marty, had an interesting email from the same lab you did. They have never done Dewlap Toulouse before for DNA genders and asked me for samples from a gander and goose as controls for future gender testing samples we would send in.

Sorry the flockraiser didn't work for you. My ducks are geese seem to be thriving on it. Congrats on your husband's retirement, mine has four years to go. I'm excited and nervous at the same time.

He will be here at home full time, or until I feel the need to kill him LOL. Actually we have lots of plans and sit daily right now discussing the flocks and housing and the next years projects. Fun times I tell ya separating from the military. Its weird at the same time to be looking at being a civilian family again. His retirement is what allowed us to add the Dewlaps, they are his flock and he so enjoys them. This week we have been looking at final colored sebastopol stock and sorting of stalls.

If you havent ever fed the mazuri, you wouldnt notice the difference. its pretty dramatic though when you have.

Mrs magoo........... no one near you is a purina expert dealer? Those dealers are suppose to be able to order the entire product line.

Mazuri is made by Purina?

yep, the Mazuri name makes a wide variety of zoological feeds like tortoise, wallaby, wolf. However not all purina sellers can get it. if they sell just basic purina feeds they wont have or get mazuri.

Interesting observations on the mazuri vs. flockraiser. My africans and every rescue goose on property gets flockraiser/whole corn/whole oats, while my personal dewlap group gets mazuri. Everyone who has been around the rescue group over the past 3 months has commented how beautiful they are filling out and feathering in, and my vet could not tell a difference in who was fed what.

I do not have to send your geese on the 22nd if it is a problem. We will be on vacation the week after the 22nd, but can send them the following week.

Oh, I have several Purina dealers close by and one is my regular dealer, but none of them would ever order squat when I asked them in the past. I am going to try my regular feed dealer again this weekend when I go spent a few hundred bucks for a month's worth of feed. Last month, they DID order a bag of wheat bran for me (for my mealworm farm). I had asked them about ordering products many times in the past and they outright refused. I guess since their business is down, they are more willing to kiss the rear side of those who still spend a lot of money there.
