My ducks are encouraging my gander! They love him and go over to him and lay down submissive but he is waaaay too rough! Why do they let him do that? He doesn't go looking for it they are seeking him out but he beats on them! I intervene and watch them closely but even through the fence of their pens which are adjacent the girls go over to the fence when he is there and lay down and let him peck them on the head and back when they could just walk away?

I don't have a Drake. They are Muscovy Cayuga x mules and don't even lay.
They are 9 months old. I do have a pond but it's in the goose's paddock, the ducks have access only to a kiddie pool in their pen at the moment. I let them out into their paddock during the day which is adjacent to the geese. I have a gate I can open to let them.in between each others paddocks. I will wait until after breeding season is over before making more effort to introduce them. I think i just wont let them alone together. It's just amazing to me they let him be so rough and don't try to stay away from him. He doesn't go after them they throw themselves at him! I have Cayugas at day 15 in the bator so eventually there will be drakes as well.

They are becoming sexually mature and want to breed. Do you have a drake for them. If they have access to swimming water, it is likely that the gander will drown them if trying to breed there.

Do you think i should get them a Drake? I can go back to the person I got them off and get one. I didn't because of advise of not bringing a Drake in to upset my gander while his goose is sitting. But I can keep them separately if I have to. They have 1/4 acre each.

If you have eggs cooking in the bator you may just get more drakes than you need and if you get one boy now you maybe biting off more than you can chew so to speak. Might want to wait on the drake. JMO. Being mule doesn't take away the desire to mate evidently .

Keep the girls separate from your gander hopefully he can't do much damage to them through fencing One of my Muscovy's throws herself at my gander in spring she is nutty. She actually has a drake

Yes I will keep separate unless I'm supervising if I go mad at him he lets them go and I can easily herd the girls off as well. I'm not going to be leaving them alone any time soon that's for sure!

Oh and i will take your advice on not getting them a Drake. I hate seeing them pining after my gander though! Poor hussys lol

Again today they insist on luring him over with their sing song and wiggly butts and let him peck them through the fence. He was being brutal I thought he would break her neck!! I ran out and went mad and he let go. I had to go physically remove the girls they just have this obsessed look on their faces. Not sure what to do.

You could put something up along the bottom of the fence that he can't get his head through. Or electrify the fence but I think I'd go for the first suggestion.

Bird netting and tie wraps maybe?
