Goose standing around, not grazing or moving--update she's ALIVE

I will be honest with you that if they want the geese left alone they are wishing they would die..... It is terrible to allow people to put the birds on the lake then not allow anyone to feed them! That is just foolish! Domestic geese eat differently then wild geese. Our domesticated geese are more of grass eaters but their are other things that they need to stay alive. I know my Sebastopol's do not eat fish I do not see them eat bugs either. Just grass, dandelions and their waterfowl feed.
I agree with you RURU how can people be so hard hearted?

I agree, too! Some people do sneak in food to them, but not like my friend did. I guess all the food people were feeding the animals attracted rodents and caused other issues with holes causing injury and the like. They do try to help birds with fishing lines, hooks, etc. Fortunately, there hasn't been any more domestic geese "arriving" at the lake the last few years. Hopefully, we won't get any more. There's still a domestic duck dumping issue, though. The other domestic geese are OK and a good weight and condition.

Well, Louie was looking after her, but I think he was pestering her for attention too much, so she went way across the lake where the coyotes are. There's also a lady who feeds the animals over there, though I don't know if she has been feeding Jill. Anyway, I took a video of Jill and she seemed a bit better today. After this video was taken, though, she seemed to start acting strange with standing around staring, falling asleep, floating around, but not as bad as before.

I think she would have eaten something if I offered it to her today.

Sorry the video is shaky, I just got this camera today and just started using it. I think this was my very second or third video with this camera.

There's supposed to be sound, but I wonder if the conversion from MOV to WMV caused problems when I uploaded it to Youtube.

Since you care so much about this goose why do you not help her by giving her some feed when you go to visit her? It does not have to be a lot just a nice handful of waterfowl food and oats. Enough for her to eat alone. If not alone feed a bit more to the other one with her.

I have been specifically told NOT to feed the animals there and told that it's "harassing of wildlife" (even if they're domestic) and could get fined or worse. They don't really say anything to the people who feed across the lake and I don't bring anything over there because I know someone else feeds them.

One thing I would like to ask is how to store feed when you live in a small apartment with no storage (either inside or outside the apartment) or outside area? Most of the feed I see is in 50lb bags.

If you go to TSC you can find some feed in smaller bags dd, I live in a house with not much storage since it was a summer home at one time so I understand that part of your problem. Thank goodness I have a feed room or I'd have trash cans sitting in my living room with feed in it. I wonder if she is old and maybe that has a lot to do with what your seeing? can you go to the other side of the lake and maybe talk to the lady who feeds her there maybe she would worm her by slipping something into a piece of bread. Beautiful lake. Or at least find out what she is feeding them. Educate maybe on what feed to get? just a thought.

We don't have TSC here, but I will check into some of our local chicken feed stores because we allow backyard chickens here and more stores carry chicken feeds, possibly in smaller bags.

I am trying to get into contact with the other lady just to let her know what's going on with Jill because she is one of her favorite geese, but I haven't been able to catch up with her. I know what she feeds and try to educate her on good feeds, but she just does what she wants, anyway. I do think she might be feeding Jill if she is going over there. I don't think Jill is very old.

I wish I knew who took her to the vet a few years ago when she and her mate, Jack, got attacked by something.

I am afraid of worming her because if something happens with her, even if it is unrelated, I would feel like I did something wrong.

I understand about the worming part, I don't like using chemicals or feeding them to my animals, so I got Verm-X and have been using it for my flock.

Hopefully you'll be able to contact this lady and maybe between the 2 of you ya'll can help Jill.

Sorry you do not have the room for feed. But as Miss Lydia says maybe you and the lady who does feed the geese on the other side can get together. Then talk about feed for the geese and she can store it if you both go in together it would be cheaper and then Jill will get fed much better with the right feed.
