Goose with bum leg and curled toes.

Sounds like you are doing what you can. In my experience, wrapping is not usually a treatment used by my vets for most leg/feet injuries. Usually, time and rest in a small pen on good grass, preferably well-soaked down daily so spongy texture lessens compression, is the best treatment for 99% of assorted injuries. As for use of NSAIDs, my vets prefer meticam. If given over a course of time, my vets recommend putting prescription fish oil tablets onto food. The aspirin will have secondary negative impact on system and the prescription oil with help with that. Over the counter is not recommended due to potentially toxic levels of mercury.

Best of luck with your new girl's speedy recovery!!

Hoefully with some TLC from you and plenty of rest she'll be good as new real soon. How old are they? also if you suspect infection you may want to consider an antibiotic.

She is doing better so the TLC seems to be helping. I have no idea on the age. He just said "older" She has laid for at least a few years according to him. Here are some pictures of them.

Here they are soaking in the kiddie pool. I am guessing she is Embden and he is Toulouse. My neighbor didn't know.

I know this isn't a great picture and she is standing the wrong way to really see but it shows the toes curling up a bit. Definitely not as bad as when she first got here.

I did more stretches and massage on the leg and she is doing much better. She still won't put any weight on it but she actually lets it touch the ground and it seems to be staying in-line with her body instead of sticking out now. Whatever it was that I was massaging yesterday that was so tight feeling is not near so tight today. She looks in much less pain as well and is starting to misbehave so that is good. After looking at her I decided to not give the aspirin today and see how she does. I wish I could get something like the Meticam but I only know of vets here who do dogs, cats and horses. Only vets here I have used did dogs and cats. If she gets worse I could try calling around and see if it gets me anywhere.

She is doing better all the time. Today I fenced off a little bit of grass in front of the pen and moved the food and a pan of water out there to let them hang in the sun. The pen they are in is a bit shady normally, only getting a few hours of direct sun each day. She really seems to be enjoying it. I also gave her another massage. She lets out a small whiny sigh when I find a sore place. I gently worked her over and she had a few other sore muscles on the other leg and also on her back. Its probably due to her having to top around. Only thing she really objects to is the midway point of flexing her leg back. Not really sure what that means other then it hurts. She has started to smile again, that skin right behind where the beak opens curves up and makes her look happy. Her eyes are looking more relaxed. She still will only barely let it touch the ground and with no weight on it at all but obviously she is healing. I have a feeling she is going to be so spoiled by the time she is well.

I got to looking at her and she only has one center keel. Other then that she looks like my other Embdens. I understood Embdens to always have 2 keels...any other white, blue eyed, orange beaked and legged/footed geese breeds I should be checking pictures of?

Maybe she just need s to put on some weight, when my Embden gander was molting he lost one of his keels, I thought for sure he was sick, but by the time he was finished and eating good again it was back. So happy to hear your seeing improvement!!

Maybe. She is a tiny bit light feeling but not bad at all. My other two Embdens almost look like they are wearing little white shorts with their double keels. She has a smooth round tummy with her legs going straight into her body. Seems like she should show a bit of the double keel but she might be a mutt too. He had had a number of geese a few years back and between a raccoon attack and having to put a few down, he only had these two left. He seemed really unsure on a lot of details about them.

The only other thing I have found that is puzzling me is that she has a bump on her neck. It is just under her left ear about an and inch or two. Something under the skin and its a bit tender. The skin there looks fine and is totally covered in feathers making it hard to see. Could be from a past bite or something. I will check it out but she doesn't like me messing with it too much, probably due to its placement near her face.

You know that I am feeding the fermented feed to my birds Lydia and I just thought I would mention their poop is getting much better. Firmer and doesn't stink anymore. They are eating it well now, leaving a bit of the greens I am leaving them to go for more of the ff. I am hoping that helps her too.

If she was human I'd think lymph nodes but I don't even know if geese have them. It could still be a sign of infection somewhere especially if tender. Just guessing of course. If she is eating good and drinking good then it must not be much, Glad to hear about the fermented feed, still waiting for mine to start bubbling. i did offer a little yesterday to see what kind of response i'd get, they weren't overly excited but someone ate it all. Your right she maybe mixed just looking at her in the pool makes me think Embden, [but and don't tell anyone I said this but Sebbies look like Embdens in the face to me] So what do I know.

I have no idea on the lump. I am just going to wait and see. If it starts feeling warm or something then I will deal with it then. She has enough of me messing with her over the leg I don't want to add that to it as well. Well as far as her looks I think she is even prettier then my other Embden girl, Snow.

And shhh, but I think the Sebbies and Embdens look the same in the face too.
