I went outside around 45 minutes ago to go lock up my chickens, ducks, and geese. However, I didn't see my geese anywhere in the fence. I locked up everyone else, and then I seen the geese over near the far end of the fence. My female, Sniper, was laying down, and my gander was watching over her. A little weird, but I didn't think that much of it. I went over to them to pick them up and Sniper didn't get up at all. Totally weird for her to not get up. I petted her and looked her over. Nothing seemed to be wrong. I picked up the gander and put him away for the night, then went back to get her. I took her out of the fence and decided to put her in the yard to see if she'd get up. She ate some grass like normal, but still wouldn't get up. I then sat her down next to our house and went inside to get my mom to look at her. As my mom was walking over to her, she got spooked and tried getting away. She flapped her wings and only got a few inches ahead. Obviously her wings are totally fine, thankfully!
But her legs? Not so much. Her right leg to be exact. It's hurt somehow I think. I looked them both over and they don't -look- hurt, but obviously something is wrong somewhere with it. She cannot walk at all, but she's fine otherwise and has a healthy appetite and is still talkative to me.
I'm not sure when this happened, but I know it's recent because just a few hours ago I was out and they were both walking around normally. It is super windy here today in central PA, so maybe she tried flying and a gust of wind sort of took her and she landed on it wrong?? I really don't know, but I feel so bad for the poor gal. She can move it a little bit, but not much. She favors laying on her left side now, keeping her right leg off the floor of their coop.

It's dark out now, so I'm unable to get pictures. However, once I'm home from work tomorrow, I'll try and take some! I think I'll also bring her inside and let her float around in a nice warm bath for a bit. I'm hoping nothing is broken. But if she isn't showing any improvement in a few days or so, I'll be taking her to the vet.

Sorry about your goose. I am not too familiar with them, but until someone else helps, I would recommend keeping her confined to a small pen or large dog crate with food and water. She might be more calm near the gander. Sprains can be common, but a dislocated hip or a broken bone would be better diagnosed with an xray. I would look for swelling of a joint, or bruising and displacement of the bones. Injuries in the hip and thigh can be very hard to treat in birds. Splinting can be done in lower leg bones with success.

Thank you! I'm still unsure of what the actual problem is. Last night I put her next to their water and food so she could easily access both. When I got home from work a while ago, she was sitting on her nest in their coop. She managed to move herself a few feet to get to it, and lay an egg. She still can't walk, but when I put her in the warm bath I made for her inside, she at one point paddled with both legs. She was splashing around having a great time. Now she's asleep in the bath. I'll be getting her out in a little bit to take some photos of the legs/how she lays for some more input.

Ok here's my photos! I finally got around to putting them on my computer. I think I was wrong in my original assessment that it was her right leg. It's her left leg giving her trouble it seems. She CAN move both legs, so I don't think there's anything broken, but again I'm no expert, so I can't say that with 100% certainty.
I've been taking her inside and letting her float in a warm bath for an hour or so daily. She loves it and she'll paddle with both feet sometimes, so I figure it helps her out a bit.

Anyway, on to the photos! I took some of how she lays, how the feet/legs look normally when she's laying down, and how the bottoms of them look. These are all taken after an hour of floating around in her warm bath.

Again, her left leg is the one giving her trouble. She can move both legs, but cannot walk. She favors laying more on her right side. I'm hoping there's not a break somewhere. I'm not sure how she hurt herself, so I'm clueless here. Any ideas guys? Thanks!
